If you were ever actively involved in church, how long did you attend and/or study the bible?
What denomination were you?
Did you ever hold a position in the church?
My answers:
I went to church 5 times per week only missing a handful of times in 15 years. I mostly attended Southern Baptist churchs, but I also went to a few non-denoms as well. And confession time: I was the women's pastor for three years.
How about you?!?

What changed my mind was studying the bible and seeking answers. The more I sought, the less I believed the bible was true. It seemed more a tool of man to control his fellow man than anything else.

Yes, Jed, I know about the Apostasy (if memory serves me it's in 2 Thess). But I still think this is written by man to control others. It goes along with what the SBC teaches you....do not question (their intrepretation of revelation 22:18), where they say it tells us to not seek answers outside of the word of god. (It actually says don't add to or take away from). My response to this is that was always if it were true, what would be the fear of people seeking answers?

Barrett,
Your condescending tone and "honey"s does little to represent your religion in a positive way. You didn't answer my question. You just took the opportunity to preach.
powerlifting,
You have no idea about my path. I didn't ask you to evaluate it. I asked you about yours. So you didn't answer my question, did you? :o)

gnostic,
Perhaps you'd like to email my former pastor and ask him. He knows more about the bible (and in fact, any topic) than anyone I've ever had the pleasure to meet. But yes, he can verify that I was a women's pastor, and that I did a fine job of it too. :o)

oldfootloose,
Actually it does. In the terms of service, you are to provide answers when responding to questions...no chatting. If you don't, your response can actually be reported. But I wouldn't do that, and I'm also not the one thumbs downing people either.

grew up an Anglican but never went, after marriage I went to the church of christ and was a believer. I then started to read the bible. I was heavily involved in planning activities at church etc. I went there for about 5 years once a week. I met some nice people there.

Just a question to think about- do you remember ever reading about the apostasy that is coming?
I too was heavy into the SB denomination. I still believe God though.
What I have is a problem with not only the SBC, but some of the unbalanced methodology I have seen, and I've been in several.
Yes, I held several positions.

Perhaps you never truly believed in the first place. Did you have a relationship with God? It doesnt sound as if you did. Because if you did reading the Bible would draw you closer to Him not away. Look at your life repent and get right with Him now. Now is the time for salvation. Amen and Peace out.............So to answer your questions: Yes I am a youth leader at my Nazarene church and have been for the past 3 years. Going to church does nothing if you dont have a relationship with the Lord you may as well sleep in. You are also very confused. There is no such thing as an atheist that would mean you have to know everything about the universe and since the greatest minds of our times only knew 1% that pretty much counts you out. You know what you need to know if you have read the Bible. Just do it and get back with the Lord. Amen and Peace out.................

I have never been baptized any religion. My dad was an Atheist and my mom was a Christian, then Buddhist...so what do you raise your kids.
I did attend Catholic school for about 10 years, and that included mass twice a week. I was never Catholic, but my mom wanted to send us to a good safe private school.
I have studied the bible for about 18 years now.
All that Catholic schooling and bible study is what actually made me turn away from religion.
I'm still fighting whether or not I'm agnostic or an atheist right now. I call myself Agnostic, but the more I try and learn the more of an atheist I become.
Just a note, my sister is "true" christian (creationist) as she calls it, my brother is an atheist, and my mom is a Buddhist.

Raised in Jehovah's Witnesses, attended Methodist, Evangelical Christian, Catholic, and Lutheran Churches at various times. Currently attending a Unitarian Universalist Church - I'm treasurer.
In case you didn't know the only church that I know of that accepts atheists without any reservations whatsoever is Unitarian.

I was born, raised, baptized, and confirmed Catholic. I went to church every week, only missing occasionally. I attended religion class every week through 8th grade. We stopped going to church so often when I was in high school and I never went by myself after that. I have also independently studied the Bible since high school (as well as other religions).
I tried to be as UNinvolved as possible.

I was Catholic. I went to the same Catholic church for about 16 years. I was baptised there and almost "confirmed" there.
No, I never held a position. My siblings were alter boys/girls. Well, ok, if you count volunteering two summers for "Vacation Bible School" then I guess I held a "position". It was mostly because I really enjoy working with kids, not the actual "Bible study".
