It could be a tumor on her rib cage. Don't worry about surgery at this point. your best bet is to take measurements of it or at least a good visual see if it is a planted mass or if it moves when you push it gently to the side. Make an appointment with a few vets( or a really trusted one). Tell the receptionist about the size and mobility of the mass and if it hurts when you touch it. Most times the vet will want to take a sample of the mass and send it in for testing. this really doesn't cost much at all. if you'd like you can go to different vets and get quotes on price. The test will let you and your vet know if it is cancerous or not. Once this is established it will be easier to talk out what needs to be done or what really doesn't need to be done. the only way of knowing what is on her ribs is to have it checked out by a vet. Good luck

what does the "mass" feel like? does it feel like bone, or another rib? or is it softer and move around when you touch it? i noticed a strange protrusion on my dog yesterday when he was lifting his leg to pee. it almost looks like an extra bone poking out at the end of his rib cage. i was worried and called the vet. she said that it could be an extra rib. she said that since it doesn't move around or seem to bother him, and he is behaving normally (eating, drinking sleeping, playing) that it doesn't sound like an emergency. i'm getting him in saturday for them to have a look, but my vet didn't sound worried. it is on the lower right side of his rib cage as well. you might have nothing to worry about, but the only way to be sure is to contact your vet.

Is it a large dog? You should definitely take him to the vet, but don't get too worked up about tumors just yet. I have a 115lb dog and we noticed lumps all over his body, especially his rib cage, and joints. It turned out to be just fluid build up because he is so large. Its just where he puts most of his pressure when he is sitting or lying on the ground. But definitely take him to the vet so they can tell you for sure.

Yea, you can help her by going back in time and not getting her. She could have went to a home that could have afforded surgery. DONT GET A DOG IF YOU CANNOT AFFORD VET CARE!!!!!!
On another note, the mass is either a fatty deposit or cancer. Only a vet can tell by cutting it open or examining it. If it is cancer she is going to go through alot of pain unless you treat it early.

Take your dog to the vet because you owe it to your pet to get her medical attention now. You don't know that she will need surgery, you just assume it. Make the appointment today. Worry about the financial part of it later. Where there's a will there's a way. I wish the best to your dog.

The only way you can "help her" is to take her to a veterinarian to be examined. Surgery may or may not be needed or advised.
