Can anyone who has lived there, tell me if it's a safe base and a good place to live?? Is there good housing or facilities there? How are the school systems?

Military bases are some of the safest places to live in America.

And I would not worry about the prison - the prisoners are on the inside.

I've never lived in Fort Dix, but I've lived on a few bases, and it's been my experience that no matter what's surrounding it, there are very few places that are safer than a military base. The only real crime I've ever heard of are domestic disputes.

I grew up a few miles away from a prison and it was never an issue. As long as your kids know to never pick up hitchhikers, they'll be ok. The chances of your kids getting picked up by random strangers are higher than getting picked up by an escaped con.

I dont know what that particular base is like, but having been to many i can say that theyre all very similar. if you live on base, it will defenitley be a safe place...bases are not the same as the areas around them, there are rules that must be followed and since 911 all bases require a 100% ID check at the gates. and if you live off base just find a home thats in a safer location where im sure there will be more military familes around just like yours, that probably felt the same way you do. just take your time finding a home if you live off base and im sure everything will be just fine

Can't say as to they schools or facilities, but the prison is the least of your concern. If an inmate escapes, the last thing he wants is to deal with an assault rifle in his face, and ten MPs taking bets on what bones broken because he tried to sneak into base housing.

IT SUCKS IT SUCKS AND IT SUCKS. YOU ARE AT NO TIME MIXED WITH THE JAIL POPULATION. BUT THE FACILITIES THERE ARE INADEQUATE. IT LOOKS LIKE A DESOLATE ARCTIC STATION IN THE WINTER. SOME OF THE INMATE CUT THE GRASS AROUND THE FACILITY BUT THEY ARE ALWAYS SUPERVISED AND THEY ARE NOT TO MINGLE WITH CIVILIANS. THE PLACE WILL BE WHAT YOU MAKE IT BUT I HATED IT. I LIVE IN NYC AND I PREFERRED TO DRIVE 2 1/2 HOURS EACH WAY THEN STAY AT THE FORT. IT USED TO BE A NICE PLACE BUT IT HAS BEEN LACKING IN THE PAST FEW YEARS.

It's a horrible place. Much of it is like the city of Detroit. The school system is below par with the nation.

The Federal Prison isn't going to be a problem.
