Its a cult. and no they can not stand up behind anything other than the watchtower or the many other books that they print.
Unfortunately most of my family is in that religion, but it becoming less and less as they are opening their eyes.
I don't talk to my grandfather or my dads side of the family because they are told not to associate with anyone outside of the religion except when they are recruiting.
My dad actually told my brother and i that he would refuse to ever see us again unless we moved in with him (when we were young teens) away from the wicked ways of my mother (who did a damn good job bringing us up).
its also funny that only the women get excommunicated when there is a divorce even when it was the husband who is cheating on the wife. ---I've seen that sooooo many times---
I guess some people need religion to rule their lives for them.
Its a sad, sad thing...that religion really tears families apart.

Since the basis for Christian beliefs is contained within the Bible it makes sense that we would use it to back up our statements.
Also, we feel the Bible does hold the Ultimate cure for cancer. The "principles of democracy" as you put it, are more or less contained, or at least, the principles of justice are. Also in the Bible we see that NO human government is perfect or truly Just.
I do have to wonder why you seem so fasinated with "asking" the same "questions" since you seem uninterested in learning.

To those with faith, the bible does hold all the answers. The version of the Bible really doesn't matter that much. You're saying theist don't dare hold a religious discussion without resorting to scripture. DUH! That's what the christian religion is based on - the Bible. Asking them not to use the bible is taking away the whole foundation for their faith. If the bible didn't exist, neither would christians.

Jehovah's Witnesses do not pretend that the bible holds "all the answers", but they are confident that the bible holds all the answers needed by humankind today.
http://watchtower.org/e/20001201/article_02.htm
Ironically, the bible actually *DOES* contain "the cure for cancer". The bible teaches that God will soon step in and correct all the pain and suffering among mankind. God's 'tent will be with mankind'
(Revelation 21:3,4) Look! The tent of God is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his peoples. And God himself will be with them. And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.
(Isaiah 33:2,22-24) Jehovah, show us favor. In you we have hoped. Become our arm every morning, yes, our salvation in the time of distress. ...22 For Jehovah is our Judge, Jehovah is our Statute-giver, Jehovah is our King; he himself will save us. ...At that time even spoil in abundance will have to be divided up; the lame ones themselves will actually take a big plunder. And no resident will say: “I am sick.” . . .
Incidentally, while Jehovah's Witnesses certainly like their "New World Translation", they do not believe it to be especially inspired or infallible differently than any other translation. Jehovah's Witnesses are happy to use any bible which a householder or interested person may prefer, and in fact they distribute other translations in addition to NWT.

The Bible does hold all the answers, including for diseases like Cancer and democracy. After Armageddon, both will be cured and will no longer exist.

I apologize if you feel that way. we try to show people from Jehovah gods word the bible, that is our main goal you should be happy that we use our bible and our beneficial publications because many religions just give there own opinions and cause confusion we at least know the material that we are sharing with others and it comes from an accurate source because we read the bible daily.

I don't know why people keep saying we as Jehovah Witnesses follow the watchtower. it is a magazine that we read on sunday, nothing more. we follow the bible. also learn what a cult is. I am tired of people calling Jehovah Witnesses a cult. a cult is like jim jones, charles manson. so one who drinks nasty stuff and follows the man to his death and there death. we are a real christian religion and live in 236 lands. we work also. we have families and may live next door to you. www.watchtower.org

I'm not responding to your answer however some of you have to watch out some people pose questions that are harmless because they really want a answer and are curious but others pose questions that are apostates as we learned in this weeks bible study so be watchful!!!!
