Sounds simple, but this is a potentially dangerous question. It would be important to know your age, past medical history and to know if you had any other symptoms.

Doctors take change in bowel habit quite seriously, especially in anyone over 50 years.

A good high fibre diet with high fluid intake is important. Lactulose + senna are the standard things most of us recommend for constipation. However if this is a change for you, you are middle aged or you have any other symptoms see your GP.

If you want to get rid of constipation, avoid eggs and coffee. In short term use pharmacy. In the long run eat high fibre diet, drink lots of water, have glass of warm water in the morning everyday. There are certain yoga lessons to learn that will help you clean your bowels in a minute and a half. (That's what it should take for healthy bowels)

If none of the above works for you go to your drug store and get a fleet enema kit. Follow the directions and that should take care of it. I would also look into what caused this problem in the first place. Are you getting enough fiber i.e. fruits and veg's in your daily diet? Above all if it keeps up consult your physician before continuing any over the counter solutions.

Fiber rich foods and lots of water!
raisin bran cereal
fig bars
apples
broccoli, cabbage, spinach
green salads
onions & garlic
whole grain breads

stay away from cheese, ice cream, white breads/pastas

It takes a few days for the diet changes to work. If you need immediate relief, try one of the over-the-counter products sold at the pharmacy.

Drink plenty of water, Fruit juice or Coffee. Eat prunes, fruit and veggies and if all else fails take a mild laxative to get things moving!

a natural remedy is prunes or liqourice or you you could try senekot which you can by from the pharmacy if you cant get senekot than just try the natural solution but if nothing helps you then go to your doctor

Bananas can keep you constipated if you eat too many

Senakot is pretty good, it's gentle and takes a few days to work but that, with plenty of liquid (Try Guiness), food with plenty of fibre in and a bit of exercise will work well.

If you've bunged up completely and it's been a good few days - go to your GP.

On and ongoing basis - make sure you drink lots of water.

Lots of fruit is good---and----its enjoyable.
If this is a serious problem you could try Movicol available from chemists. It comes as a powder in dosage size sachets, just mix with water and drink. Good luck anyway
