I really don't know. I'm a redneck woman, and I'm proud of my Southern heritage. We have produced terrific food, music, and literature. But this is something I'm not proud of. Not only is it a symbol of racism, it's treasonous against America!

Most of the people who fly the Confederate Battle Flag , that's what it is; there were several confederate flags.
Since none of the people flying that flag were in the Civil war they are in affect, posers.
Frankly if people of southern heritage want to show southern pride, they should fly the flag of the southern state of their birth, or of their family's home state.
The facts about the reasons for the Civil war are not as clear cut as people think. Do a little research folks.
For those folks that say they fly the flag to show southern pride, what does that mean exactly? Or are you just parroting the "party line". A lot of people fly the "confederate flag" because they think it inspires fear in minorities, what it does mostly is make most of us roll our eyes at the infantile gesture of defiance.
I'm a Southerner by birth, and by blood, I have a lot of pride in where I'm from, you will not however see me flying the Confederate Battle flag as a statement of that pride.

They call it Southern Pride.
I think they should choose some other symbol. The Confederate flag represents hate, prejudice, and slavery to so many people. [including me] I come from the North and my family did not keep human beings as property. I live in North Carolina now, and I see the Confederate flag everywhere.

here is some food for thought. What flag was flown during the Jim Crow laws? What Flag was flown while our own citizens (who were of japanese decent) were placed in intern camps in the 1940's? And finally what flag is also used by the KKK?
If you answered the American Flag you are correct.
