Take a lot (thousands) of thermocouples (wires of 2 different metals joined together), and connect them in series, and arrange them so half of them point "in", like to the middle of a circle, while the other half point away from the center of the circle.
Now, take a heat source and put it in the middle of the circle so it heats up the "inside" thermocouples. The heat source could be something a simple as a candle flame, or a gas flame, or something exotic like a nuclear generated heat source.
All of those thermocouples are in series, so you have a "beginning" and and "end" to the wire connections. If the heat source is in the middle, then you will get electric power from the beginning and end wires (like the terminals on a battery).

My husbands works on and builds generators. I amnot sure which type you mean. Electric thermo generator powered by natural gas or propane, is used to generate electric,
