Why do guys spit around women?

Can't they just walk away a foot or two and be a little more discreet by maybe turning their back to us instead of doing it right there in front of us? Am I the only woman that thinks it's digusting??

Yes, it IS very disgusting and it is NOT socially acceptable behavior. Now, young men do it who have not been taught otherwise by their parents. Grown men do it who have not been taught when they were younger that it is innapropriate. Grown men who have learned it is innapropriate stop doing it as they gain maturity. Young men who never are told it is offensive will never learn it is not acceptable behavior and so will keep on doing it as they age.

If a young man was not taught by his parents how unacceptable spitting around women is then it is up to women to tell them how disgusting it is to us and how insulting and disrespectfull to do so in front of us. If they have gained any maturity at all as they age they will stop doing it. If a man refuses to stop after a woman he is dating has requested it then he is not respectfull of women and therefore is not a man we should continue to date. It is as simple as that. If women refuse to date men who engage in such disrespectfull behaviors the men will eventually get the message and stop the offensive behavior(s). However, if we never tell them and/or stop dating them then they will never learn and therefore never stop.

Good question and thanks for asking it. Women need to understand what we need to do to assist boys in growing up into healthy respectfull men when their parents have failed to do so. We women do have a responsibility in society to help those so unfortunate to not receive proper instruction at home and if they don't like it well too bad!

Spitting in public is disgusting, unsanitary, and rude. Many of the men who hock it up onto the pavement either A)were never taught good manners, and/or B)don't know how to impress the women in their lives. Why those men won't just swallow or hold off until they get to a bathroom is beyond me. In my area, some jurisdictions actually have laws against public spitting- and I am thankful to heaven for that.

I agree with you that it's disgusting. I think men do it because they think it makes them appear more "manly" in that spitting is something most women don't do. A pretty lousy reason for a disgusting (and unhealthy) habit, if you ask me.

Men tend towards self-centeredness in this respect. While I think women think about things like little children stepping in spit or maybe falling and getting their hands in it, a lot of men don't tend to think of anyone except other men, and to refrain from spitting would make them appear weak or wussy in the eyes of other men, so they spit.

I've also observed that there are some men that have an attitude of loathing towards women that can range from mild dislike to virulent hatred. These guys aren't gay, they're usually the men who fancy themselves as "players" and they objectify and use women and refuse to consider them as equals. These kinds of guys positively crave chances to do things that are distasteful to women, because it makes them feel big and powerful and aggressive and macho. Again, pretty rotten reasons for doing something distasteful, dirty and unhealthy.
