Check his DD-214 (Discharge Certificate from the Armed Forces of the United States). Some times it's typed in there what benefits they have upon discharge. Other than that, check the VA's website at http://www.va.gov or call 1-800-827-1000. Most of the time your local County Veterans Affairs Officers have an answer. The State where you live might have some student loan for certain veteran's dependents. There is a book "Need a Lift" for list of organization providing scholarships to veterans' dependents. The book cost $3.95 including postage.

My Dad passed away last year. His only benefit that I know of was a burial benefit. Like 200 dollars or so toward the grave marker.

No! You get none. Heck!! Even the veterans themselves get few benefits. Look at the veteran affairs. They turn most Veterans down for help.

check with the local veterans affairs office. If there is not a local office then you can check with the county office and they may have some contact information for you.

I believe you can get a tombstone for him from the government, if he doesn't have one.
