As best I can figure it almost all 88 Los Angeles County cities and most of the unincorporated areas of the county are within 30 miles of that location, if you could drive say 60 miles an hour ( which by the way would be legally acceptable) almost anyplace in Los Angeles would be no more than a half hour drive...It would take you to Huntington Beach on the south (Orange County), Pamona to the east (part of the inland empire), Santa Clarita to the north, and Point Dume to the West (Malibu). Unfortunately attaining such a speed for any length of time in L.A, is improbable...

Clare,

something tells me you are moving here and want to know about commuting.

You'd better know this up front: 30 miles here is not the same as 30 miles where ever you're from. A 30 mile commute could take you anywhere from half an hour (unlikely) to 2 hours. It all depends on our legendary traffic.

You are smart, though to reduce your commute to as little as possible. Avoid if at all possible, the 101/405 interchange in any direction. Unless you want to know hell.

mapquest the address, and start from there.

Independent cities? (Remember, most areas are parts of Los Angeles).

However, Burbank, Glendale, Inglewood, Carson, Long Beach, Downey, Pasadena, Torrance, and Santa Monica are all cities

(There are a LOT more)

Places like Hollywood, Chatsworth, Northridge, Studio City, Eagle Rock ... are all parts of the City of Los Angeles

first of all th best thing you can do for yourself is get a map. then you might want to familiarize yourself with the traffic patterns. There are places within 20 miles from my home that might as well be thousands of mile. some period during the day I can not really get to them because of traffic.
