the facts... ( i work for sky as an engineer)
any line bt ntl ect will work with sky as long as you have outgoing calls
you could pay 25 pound for a no phone line install and not have to have it connected but this only applies to standard digiboxes not sky plus or hd which must be connected for twelve months as per the contract, hope this helps :)

No because you tv comes via a dish, all you need the phone line for is to plug into the digi box to get the updates.
