Ive decided to compete with my Morgan mare in Morgan in-hand shows. What is a female supposed to wear while competeing? And where can I buy this clothing?

Is there any special way to wear your hair? Is makeup a no-no, or does it not matter? What kind of whip are you supposed to carry?

How should my horse be groomed? What kind of halter/bridle should I buy for her? Where can I buy it? How should I lead her? By her reins, should I take off the reins and use a leather lead, or both? Should she have no tack besides that?

What can I expect at these shows?

I have a pretty good understand of all of the above except about my attire. But, I am asking to be absolutely positive. I would hate to show up using all the wrong stuff.

My main questions are, where can I buy what I need to wear? Where can I buy her bridle? Online stores only, please.
Thanks in advance to anyone who answers.

An excellent video that is available for showing Arabians, Morgans and American Saddlebreds In Hand is by Jim Atkinson called "Training the Weanling/Yearling and In Hand Horse For Presentation". This video is available through the Bookstore at the American Saddlebred Museum site located at: www.american-saddlebred.com.
I think you might enjoy watching the pro's,and seeing first what is worn and then shopping.
There are also Horse Expos and local clinics for apparel and other ideas. Please have two outfits ,in case you go finals, and remember the kit of toothpaste, water bottle, protein bar, boot polish, sewing kit and wet wipes:)
I hope this video/dvd can help.
I have hired professional handlers when the stakes were very high. Good luck in the ring! Linkys below to shopping sites

Try the American Horse Show Association Rule Book to determine the regulations for your attire and the rules of showing in hand.
Your best bet is a leather halter and lead. Grooming is basically cleaning up your horse; mane and tail without mats, clipped lower legs, bridle path, whiskers and ears.
You can call a local riding club (like ETI) about how to show your horse and get the details of what is expected in a class.

I am writing from the UK and I expect your are in the States, but I would suggest you attend a couple of shows, without your mare, to see what everyone else is doing/wearing, if you have time before your first show. You will find it will put your mind at rest about a lot of things, and there may be some trade stands there, where you can buy some of the clothes/tack that you will need. Don't spend too much money on all new stuff until you have given it a go. Best of Luck!
