New Orleans just declared it and I was wondering why it is not used more often in regard to cities like Detroit and L.A. do you think Martial Law would be a benefit for good law abiding citizens in these cities? Would good citizens tolerate/denounce/support/rage against that strong of a police mandate?

I think you should read the definition and consequences of imposing Martial Law on a city or area.

I think you might be surprised at just what it would mean to you and those you cite......

Martial law is not a benefit to citizens. It is a revocation of rights. During that time, the police are in complete control. Arrests can be made for anything and a person can be held indefinately. These are not good things for citizens. Nazi Germany used martial law. Look how their citizens were treated. If anyone objected to what was going on, they would be arrested, secretly tried (or tortured into a confession) and then killed.

Martial law is useful in disaster situations. There are times where it has to be used temporarily in order to get past the chaos. However, it is not something that should be used at all times. It would not be long before citizens would want their freedoms back and the police would be fighting to keep the freedoms out of the hands of the people. This would result in a situation where the police do not serve the citizens. It would be a situation where the police lord over the citizens.

No. Ordinary, law abiding citizens are already treated enough like criminals until its determined they are doing nothing they can be charged with. Martial law only creates a worse situation. The bill of rights, which are our natural and God-given rights, forbids treating law abiding citizens as criminals.

In LA it would probably cause riots and make things a lot worse.
I have no knowledge of the social structure in Detroit. Martial Law has been misused by many Dictators in the world. It does not work.

Declaring Marshall Law is a supreme danger to our freedom. If the people support the war in Iraq and the invasion of Iran they are opening themselves to submit to a dictator ship in America. Are we that weak?
