On most bolt actions rifles, you first make sure it's unloaded. Then you pull the bolt back, hold the trigger down as if you are firing, and pull the bolt all the way out. At least that's how mine works, but it's not a Remington.

To remove the bolt on a Remington ADL rifle the safety must be off (on the earlier model ADLs, anyway). Point in a safe direction. Open the action and draw the bolt back until it stops. With the action open and the bolt back, reach into the trigger guard just in front of the trigger. Depress a square button on the top side within the trigger guard in front of the trigger and pull the bolt all the way out.

To re-assemble simply slip the bolt back into place. NOTE: Do not attempt to load the magazine and chamber while the bolt is removed as this may jam your rifle.

Good luck.

The bolt release is a little button inside the trigger guard just in front of the trigger.

if it weren't a remington, I'ld say lay it on the ground and beat it repeatedly with a 15 pound sledge hammer... very effective, however, it does tend to render the gun useless after that...
