Do you mean "psalms?" Or the "Song of Song." Psalms are praised to God for all the great things he did for the writer. The "Song of Songs" is an analogy of man's relationship to God by comparing it to human love. YBIC

If you mean the book of Psalms (which are rightly called songs as they are lyrics), the point of it is that it is a collection of songs to or about God. They are part of the Hebrew tradition and culture.

It's kind of like asking what's the point of a collection of Shakespeare or Poe or Mark Twain.

If you are talking about the book of Psalm, it is poetry, worship music, and encouragement.

If you are talking about Song of Songs, (aka Song of Solomon); God speaks to every aspect of our lives on Earth - even the sexual part. This models for us a lovely sexual relationship between a man and his wife.

There is no book of "Songs" in the Old Testament. There is a book called "Song of Songs" or "Song of Solomon." Is that what you mean?

It's a lovely piece of interracial erotica. Why they included it in the Bible is anyone's guess.

It's a love poem -- ostensibly between two people, but allegorically between God and Israelites.
