My wife hurt her finger. I wanted to drive her to the hospital but the ambulance people insisted we come with them, they pretended like 'it wasn't a big deal.' They drove us to the hospital nearest to their base, much farther away than the nearest hospital (i think against a law), and then my wife realized we didn't have insurance so we left, having to take the subway home. Now they want us to pay for the 'service.'
Thanks!

Yep , your going to have to pay.....You can challenge the bill and see if they will reduce the charges for not going to the nearest hospital. I would tell them that I will only pay from pick up point to what would of been the nearest hospital

They provided you a medical service and that is all there is to it. Know your wife not realizing you didin't have insurance till you got to the hospital sounds kinda strange. Sound like you called an ambulance in the hopes that they would bandage her up and just leave and you didin't have the nerve to tell them you didin't want her transported. Some times trying to get free medical care will backfire in your face and it did this time. I don't think cutting your finger needs an ambulance. Even if you cut it compleatly off you could still wrap a towel around it and get to the hospital to have it fixed.

Your wife concented to transport and care by the ambulance service so they are well within their rights to bill you. Also there is no law saying which hospital you go do. In a real emergency they are expected to go to the closest hospital that is capible of handling the emergency. If you specify a hospital then they should take you there, but in most cases (local and state laws vary) they are more qualified (and allowed) to decide which hospital is appropriate.

Yes you rode in the ambulance to a hospital regardless of the fact that you did not get treatment. It is not the fault of the ambulance service that you did not have insurance and walked out of the hospital. Pay up.

You have the right to refuse medical care and a hurt finger is not an emergency in most cases. I would say you have to pay since they did transport you and I have never heard of the nearest hospital clause though it may be there

Yes, the ambulance can charge you. If you didn't want to ride in the ambulance, you could have formed the word "no" and driven instead.

You used the service, you must pay for it.

Unfortunately yes. The ambulance services today are owned by people not hospitals. You don't have to do what they say but once you let them do their thing, they've got you hook, line and sinker.

I don't take them cause they are all crooked.

U could of refused the ambulance reguardless of their persistance. yet u chose to take it. so by law u must pay for it. u can fight it in court but most likely will lose. sorry. and if they can prove u called them ..u will be charged. in most states if u personally call the ambulance and then refuse it ..then u must still pay the fee.

Yes, you have to pay because you were transported. There is a chance the nearest facility was on "divert" which means they were not accepting ambulances.

Unless they put a gun to your head and made you get in then you have to pay.

You owe them. If they drive out to you and don't take you to the hospital they charge you.
Didn't you know before you called them that you didn't have insurance?
