This are not my words but this is how i feel, and much more : "It takes several months to understand the rain-washed grandeur of London,it takes several weeks to succumb to the frank charms of Paris but pause in the middle of the Brooklyn Bridge at sunset and in fifteen seconds you will have understood New York.At first you see nothing, lost in an interweaving of beams, struts and cables swollen by the afternoon sun..." This is my favorite city in the world and even if i haven't have visited it will always have the first place in my heart!!

As a tourist, I have become very fond of Battery Park - it is well located at the southern tip of Manhattan ... with a subway station nearby. Yet, it's quiet and safe and pretty.
The hotel where we always stay (the Embassy Suites) has stunning views of the Hudson River, and the Statue of Liberty ... there is a great promenade to walk along all the way down to the Ferry Terminal.
We used to stay at the Waldorf in Midtown ... never again.
If I could afford it, I would move to NYC, and get a condo in Battery Park ... but until I win the lottery, won't happen. Sigh.

Not times square, its too busy and when you've lived in new york for a long time theres not that much to do there that you wanna do. I love lower manhattan especially in battery park. In the summer you can just sit on the benches are lay out on the grass and just get away. Its a beautiful view of the hudson river and I went to school right next to it. SoHo is the best place for walking around, theres a million stores where you will find the most unique things and people. To live\visit someone who lives there, the upper west side. The people are more down to earth then the upper east, but the apartments are spacious and beautiful with a beautiful view.

I can't say I have a favorite. The Statue of Liberty, what greeted my grandparents over 100 years ago. Broadway because thats where all the shows are. I also liked Central Park, where us country bumpkins can reconnect with nature, pre9/11 wallstreet twin towers, UN area. New York is THE BEST major metro city in the states.

Nolita. The best place to walk around, eat, people watch, and shop a little. Times Square is a noisy outdoor mall at this point - no NYC flavor there.

I love Rockefeller Plaza for the whole NBC/Today show bit. (Been watching it for YEARS). I love 5th ave just for the hustle and bustle - pure excitement. I love Central Park because you can wind through. I love the ESB because you can see the whoe world from up there. I love the bridges, I love the waterfront. I love standing on that walkway by the water in Brooklyn watching the city across the river buzzing with life. I love NYC.

I like Ft. Tyron Park in Washington Heights. It's a quiet and beautiful retreat just a short subway ride away, and the Cloisters Museum there is fascinating
