I hear ya... I grew up among riders, and back in '75, my mom & the man who later became my stepdad were both almost killed in one of those "But Officer, I didn't see the motorcycle" incidents... He has had two more accidents that were entirely the other person's fault despite his being a very defensive rider.
When I am on the road, I will play "rear guard" by taking a position 1.5 carlengths behind a group of bikes and shifting between lanes to force other vehicles to slow down and look around before they reach the point of being close to the bikes... I can't tell you how many times the riders have offered to by me lunch when I've done this on twisty or otherwise dangerous roads.

You actually show a respect on the highway, you are to be commended. Many bikers don't respect the roads, and I think that's why the respect for bikers is so low... More times than I care to say bikers have revved up their bikes and sped down the interstate double or triple file...I've seen them riding with their feet stretched out over the handle bars, no helmet and other behaviors that pose a danger to themselves and others. I myself was a witness to an accident where the biker actually flew across the hood of my car and landed, thank God, on the soft shoulder of the road rather than the cement. I stopped and offer aid but it wasn't a pretty picture. I wish all bikers respected the road like you do... I think many, ( not all mind you ) bikers feel they are invincible on their bikes. Unfortunately that's not the case... You have no protection whatsoever unlike in a car or truck. It is true many drivers don't care enough to realize the danger they pose to the bikers as well when they follow so close or try and cut them off... Just keep doing what you're doing, and stay alive, please wear a helmet ...If you ride for fun just keep the fun to the off road...

yep it used to be alot safer when people weren't chatting on cell phones, texting, reading the newspaper or a book while driving. these are all things i have seen people doing while driving cars down the street or on the freeway. yesterday on the news there was a guy working on his laptop while driving that hit a hummer. It is not always the fault of the motorcyclist going too fast. It is legal to white line in Calif. I agree with loud pipes save lives. There have been many quiet bikes pass me that i don't see till they are next to me. You always have to drive like nobody sees you. Keep riding and stay safe.

Most likely not, unless they are in fact just an evil person.
You ride your bike like I ride mine and most other riders. Be invisible. The reason there are more gettin in accidents is that people don't drive anymore, they are in too big a hurry to be bothered by an insignificant thing like paying attention while driving I mean geez what if lisa texts you, you would be rude not to immediatley text her back... and gee if a customer calls you you have to answer the call as voice mail is so 90's.
If you can't tell I have had people change lanes into me, runing me off the road. and pull out in front of me and Me almost hitting them then they have the gall to flip me off.....I just shake my head take down the tag and call the police making a citizens complaint against the driver......It is the same as a ticket but you have to prove it was them, they usually don't show for their court date so it defaults to you...Kinda a fun way to wake people up. Most don't know you can do this in most municipalities....

I think you are a bit crazy to ride a bike today! I have people not see me and pull in front of me when I'm in a car! When I see someone on a bike I always pay extra attention to them so I do scare them or make them feel that they do not have as much right to the road as I do.

I agree with you, it's absolutely crazy! People pay no attention to bike riders.
They tailgate them and cut infront of them, pull out infront of them, etc.
Have you taken a class on how to crash? They have classes that teach you how to lay down your bike in an accident which will help decrease the amount of damage to your body. But you are right, that is the only way-- know that no one else is paying attention to you. Loud pipes save lives. (from what I have heard!)
It blows my mind, I stay far back from motorcycles, I mean what if he (or she) somehow falls off, or crashes? If you are too close you will run them over and how can you live with that? It's not like another car that you hit and hope everyones ok. You will run them over.
There are risks associated with everything.

I think people are becoming more rude, selfish and aggressive in general - I don't think it's aimed at motorcyclists specifically. It's increasingly more dangerous for all of us, but especially motorcyclists.

Here in Canada, it's winter so there aren't a lot of bikes around right now but the last one I saw was in November and it passed me at twice my speed... tough to see a blur unless you get in it's way. Most unsafe riders here are rewarded accordingly... unfortunately.

Well let me tell you one thing that I HATE about you motorcyclist. The fact that you zoom down lane dividers during traffic and the fact that you guys think you own the road. To me it seems like you don't care about your own life.
