I was lucky enough to finish college before I had my baby, so I have a really good job with benefits and vacation time. I can take sick days when the baby is sick and time off to spend with her throughout the year.
She stays with her grandma 3 days per week and in daycare 2 days per week. It is not at all easy, but I try. I spend as much time with her as I can. Even when I am doing housework or making dinner, she is with me. She plays in the kitchen while I cook and "helps" with the laundry. I take her with me everywhere I go and try to bond with her as much as I can.

I am a single parent at the moment while my husband is serving a jail sentence, I have been scaping by with one job though I work long hours and miss spending the time with my children since I worked part time before. My kids are 5 and under so they probably won't remeber much of me not being there, but I just try to do as many activites with them as I can, include them with cooking dinner and laundry so they are helping and spending constructive time together.

I have debated working 2 jobs, especially around the holidays, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it. I would have been away too much. I already work 40 - 45 hrs a week and I feel guilty about that enough as it is.

Try as hard as you can to make it with one job and child support if you get it. Apply for WIC also. If you need to work two jobs just make sure you spend as much time as you can with your children and do special memorable things with them. Such as a weekly tradition. It could be as simple as baking cookies with them every week or just having spaghetti every Sunday (my grandmother did this with my mom and the other 12 children! and its one of my moms most vivid memories of childhood) Or read them a story every night before they go to bed. They just have to know that youre there and you love them even if you cant always be home.
