Yes, he was. All true Christians have the responsibility to preach the good news of God's kingdom from door to door. However, because of physical limitations, some have found other ways to engage in the preaching work, like letter-writing and phone witnessing. All Christians are to be involved in the command that Jesus gave to his disciples at Matt. 28:19, 20 to "go and make disciples...teaching them all the things have commanded you."

Name-only Christians feel content to pay a clergy to do the preaching for them.

This is the command of Jesus to all of his followers, then and now...

Matthew 28: 19 & 20a: "19 Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded YOU."

What did Jesus do in his ministry?
Matthew 4: 23: "Then he went around throughout the whole of Gal′i·lee, teaching....and preaching the good news of the kingdom......"

and the we have the example of the acts of the apostles...
Acts 20:20: "while I did not hold back from telling YOU any of the things that were profitable nor from teaching YOU publicly and from house to house."

Matthew 24:14: "14 And this good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations; and then the end will come."

So yes, the responsible Christian should do everything possible to help do the will of God and make sure that this good news of the Kingdom is preached to everyone. The best way to do this is to go where the people are....

True Christianity is based on living in harmony with and preaching the "good news" of God's Messianic Kingdom by Christ Jesus. The true Christian congregation is organized primarily to perform this global Scriptural assignment.

(Matthew 24:14) And this good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations

(Luke 9:6) They went through the territory from village to village, declaring the good news

(Acts 5:42) Every day in the temple and from house to house they continued without letup teaching and declaring the good news about the Christ, Jesus.

By stark contrast with so-called "religious" activists, however, Jehovah's Witnesses note pointedly that biblical "good news" is not about such things as abortion or homosexuality or the death penalty or Iraq or pharmaceuticals or psychiatry. Individual Jehovah's Witnesses may have opinions on such issues, but they do not advocate for or against these issues as though it were a primary message from God.

Sadly, so-called "religious" activists distract from the real message of God and obfuscate the bible's "Good News". These self-absorbed religionists focus so much attention of their human agendas that they ignore the godly teachings that can really help people.

Jehovah's Witnesses go from house to house to encourage and upbuild. Their work is to spread the "Good News", which is about the Kingdom of God, and the blessings the Messianic King Christ Jesus will bring.

(Luke 8:1) Journeying from city to city and from village to village, preaching and declaring the good news of the kingdom of God

(Acts 10:36) Declare to them the good news of peace through Jesus Christ

It is sad that some self-described "Christians" have worked to betray God and the bible.

Yes, all Christians should follow the example of the early Christians. They are our role model. They were taught by Jesus or his disciples.

Paul himself said at Acts 20: 20 " while I did not hold back from telling you any of the things that were profitable nor from teaching you publicly and from house to house."

Acts 5: 42 "And every day in the temple and from house to house they continued without letup teaching and declaring the good news about the Christ, Jesus"

You bring up a great point. Paul definitely was the ultimate Jehovah's witness. He made every effort to bring Jesus' Word to the people though rather than a new version of Jesus' Word.

The letters of Paul in the Bible often include teachings that do not match Jesus' teachings, but those letters also have been found to have been actually written much after the life of Paul. It appears that other writers have used Paul's name on their work.

Take care,
Troy

Paul possibly went door to door, but probably he went to one home and his host invited others over to hear him.

Not necessarily. However, 2 nice Jehovah Witnesses came to my door 5 minutes ago. I took their literature and they left. I prefer to witness by being a good example, i.e. "doing the next right thing for the next right reason."

Paul only went to the houses of believers to fellowship

he went to places like the Hill of mars to preach and it was allowed cause all philosophers of the day did this.

No believers should not go door to door except to the houses of other believers one should offer truth in a public forum both the Messiah and the Apostle did this.

Messiah's sermon on the mount for example.
Paul on the hill of Mars in Greece. And many time in Acts they went into the synagogues. But every time you see them in someone house it was because they were summond or because it was another believer.

Look at it this way......If you know the truth.
If you don't look for his sheep.
If you disobey God, who told Jesus to tell us what he wants us to do. (He did his part)
Aren't you blood guilty for letting someone who's waiting for you?
Are you not responsible for someones death? By not visiting him?
Should you not be punished for disobeying God?
