My Pastor told us that Liberals hate Christianity, cause they don't have no moral values. Would you agree?

IT's just that democrats have bibles that include verses about "love thy neighbor" and to be a good steward of the earth.

No. Many Democrats and Liberals are very faithful Christians. One of the aspects of the Democratic Platform is caring for others. Caring for the poor and others less fortunate is a virtue shared by all Christians.

The problem occurs with a large segment of Democrats and Liberals, in particular the group from which most of the leaders come.

In this group there is no discomfort which is not to be avoided. Just as drugs can mask the need for healing these folks feel deeply for the momentary suffering while the treatment weakens the future.

We had that situation with Welfare in this country. To feel for those who are poor is a normal healthy instinct and should be promoted. But the feeling was not matched with a view to the long term impact of dependence. We suffered for years from a welfare sub culture and when reform was introduced it was decried as heartless. Now 10 years in the saving in money is far outweighed by the saving of lives. The "heart but no head" of the original program had hurt those it sought to help.

The failure to see this problem was not a “Democratic” problem. Democratic Senator Moynihan voiced his concern about the culture of dependence which would result. The Democratic leadership, however, did not see that far and carried through with the resulting cost to the country and those many citizens affected.

A second aspect which is not so much a "Democratic" characteristic as it is a Liberal one (and again found in the group that lead the Democratic Party) is that of "freedom and conformity”. The cry is that the freedom of the individual must never be hindered. While we all support freedom we realize that most individual freedom affect others. My freedom of speech reduces your freedom to hear. My freedom of religion, if I am shooting off firecrackers on Chinese New Year reduces your freedom have silent prayer.

In the Liberal view freedom is the highest good. Free to speech, free to take drugs, free to believe. But do they really want freedom? They want only selected freedoms.

Yes: Free speech
No: Speech we do not like (e.g. ROTC speeches)

Yes: Free to take drugs
No: Drugs we don’t like (e.g. tobacco)

Yes: Free to believe
No: The religion we don’t like (e.g. Buddhist sand painting in the town square? Paid by the Library, nativity scene? Not even with private money.)

I think it is this last point which makes it look like Democrats and Liberals are against Christianity. Christianity is about becoming truly free by being in Christ. It is a freedom that results in a certain type of conformity and certainly leads one to stay away from certain kinds of behavior. The freedom that leads to conformity feels like a threat to these folks. They see the Christian joy in being a sinner redeemed as some sort of self satisfaction. And “If one is self satisfied then doesn’t that mean that you are better than me?” seems to be the question they ask. So, there is no doubt that Christianity does irk many of the leading Democrats and they are perhaps of whom your pastor was speaking. But not all Democrats or even all liberals are anti-Christian.

First of all, a history lesson: Democrats USED to be the "conservative" ones, and Republicans USED to be the "liberal, crazy" ones.

That being said, some more information: MANY people who profess to be Democrats ALSO are Christians.

And finally, many Democrats are MORE like Christ than many Republicans are, as the Bible says "Love thy neighbor", and does NOT say "Love ONLY thy Heterosexual, White, Christian, Male, etc. neighbor". (note that I said MANY, not ALL)

Jesus himself gave more praise to the woman who gave the penny to the temple collection box than the person who gave so much to the temple, because the woman gave all she had, whereas the other person only gave a portion. Which do you think that Pat Robertson, et. all, personifies? (not to pick on Pat Robertson specifically, either)

Most Democrats that I've known (as I'm neither Dem. or Rep., but Independent), DON'T have a problem with Christians. What the ones I've met DO have a problem with is the HYPOCRITICAL Christians, the ones who are NOT following Jesus' teachings, and yet condemn others as not being "Christian enough". They condemn people who say, "These people DESERVED the problems that have happened to them, and are being judged by God for it." How "Christian" is it to HOPE for doom and gloom to come upon your neighbor? To judge yet not want to be judged themselves? To talk to DFS about a family who ISN'T Christian and claim that you KNOW they're abusing the children (but failing to mention that the only abuse is that they're NOT teaching about Christian beliefs)?

I have nothing against Christians at all. AT ALL. This is merely an explanation. If more people would act like the MAINSTREAM Christians I've known, you might not hear as much about the war on religion, as those Christians let GOD judge, and leave themselves out of the picture when it comes to religion.

What a load of crap.

See, I don't get whats wrong with Conservative Christians. Conservatism is all about the money. Liberalism (what your Jesus is) is all about the people.

Now who has no morals again? Last I looked, Conservatism is all about getting money any way you can. Liberals are about taking care of other people. The liberals support health care, education, social aid, and more. The Conservatives don't. The Conservatives want money, and power.

I think somehow Christians got twisted around somewhere.

Your Pastor is full of it.

If your pastor told you that liberals "don't have no moral values" then he is correct. They do have moral values. Your use of a double negative is indicative of your poor public education - and perhaps inbreeding.

Any pastor who spends time pointing fingers at others, judging them, and calling them names probably needs to go back to the seminary and learn a little bit more about the teachings of Jesus.

Sounds like a troll to me. Liberals aren't necessarily Democrats. Neither necessarily is adverse to the teachings of Jesus. Moral value is in short supply in the Bible, and immoral behavior is displayed by God himself. Maybe someone has their morals tuned in to more liberally love everyone than you or your pastor do.

The most extreme liberals don't believe there is such a thing as "sin" or "evil." But the more moderate liberals could easily be Christians.

You keep talking about what your pastor says. I don't think you go to church. I think you just write questions from the view of the stereotyped intolerant Christian.

You are a liberal trying to make Christians look bad.

You are a fake!

I'd say your pastor is full of crap. I know many very christian democrats. The main difference between the Republicans and the Democrats is that the Democrats wish to keep religion OUT of politics (where it absolutely does not belong) and the Republicans wish to use religion as a marketing and spin tool.

Well, let me think. I'm a practicing Catholic, an armchair theologian, a minister in my church, and a registered member of the Democratic party. And I know plenty of Christians, some more conservative in their religious views than me, who vote Demoncrat.

I have to disagree with your pastor.

i think your pastor needs to go back to whatever school taught him his bible studies. Learn things like judge not lest ye be judged, love they neighbor, and tell no lies to gullible people. Oh i forgot one of religions main goals is to teach hatred to all of it's followers of anyone who isn't exactly like them. Er was that Hitler? hmmm seems the two are pretty similar. Both you and your pastor need to learn what God really means and wants and not assume that it is OK to hate just to hate - because it makes you feel all warm and cozy inside. Yeah i'm positive that's how God would want people to act. i am sure he is very proud of you and your pastor.

Why don't you try not listening to your pastor and going out in the world to find out things for yourself? Too scared? Because your pastor is wrong and a hypocrite.
