I have finally decided that I can stand to get a tattoo. I have worked hard and graduate college in August and would like to celebrate with a small tattoo. I am not into color and do not like a heavey black fill either. So i am trying to find a halfdollar size or smaller, black outlined tattoo. Can't seem to find anything online without paying for each picture. Any help here? I also would like to place it somewhere either on the ankle or slightly above. I have a very light pain issue but handled all my shots for school well. ( i had all 8 in one sitting with no needle issues.) I am thin and so friends say it will hurt to put it anywhere other than on my upper arm or thigh, uh no...if I am going to endure it then everyone will see without me having to drop my pants, any suggestions to all this headache?

I for one, think that the bonier (is that a word?) the area, the less it hurts. My thigh tattoo absolutely killed me for 4 hours. As for an image, what did you major in. If it was medical, maybe a caduceus would be sweet. Go with something that is sure to remain special to you.

All the suggestions above are great except for the one of getting drunk.. do not drink before a tattoo it thins out your blood and that could be very bad.

Try googling an image of something thats very special to you and if you have a very low tolerance for pain then its going to hurt no matter where you get it buts its not unbearable and after 10 minutes or so it'll be numb so you won't feel it so much then.

Its true that the more bony an area the more it hurts i have 5 tats and my lower back, lower neck and right wrist hurt since there is very little fat there.

Good Luck

I got my first tattoo a couple of years ago. For a design you can do just about anything, draw your own, get a pic from a book or mag, or tell the artist what you want and let them make the design. As far as the pain, mine is on my bicep (about 2x4 inches) and it didn't hurt like you would think. However I was told that where you don't have much meat, or if bone close to the skin the pain will be more. Hope this helps.

First and foremost.....they are permanent, so get something that is important and meaningful to you. If you want it above your ankle, then go two finger widths above the ankle bone to get into the fleshier part, where it will be less painful. Also consider getting it on the onside of your heel...tats there are very small and inconspicuous. Do not get a black only tattoo....get some color in there, even if is is pale or slight. Know going into this that getting a tat is nothing like getting a shot, or eight. It is a constant annoyance, but not terribly painful. I have three tats and my favorite is located on my lower back/tailbone.....it is one I drew myself! Consider drawing something you like...the artist will help you to define it. Good luck!

If you are going to get a tattoo on your ankle or just above. It is going to hurt. Because he will be tattooing over a bone. Try to get one on the meater part of your body. If you are not into color then get an outline of something. Think if something that defines you. I love butterflies because they symbol new life. I know a girl that has a snoopy outline because she doesn't like color. Trying searching under "Images" on the yahoo tool bar. It should give you some pics that you don't have to pay for.

well you seem to have your mind made up about a lot of it. the only thing i can see that you haven't decided on is what to get. you can go to a tattoo shop and look at their flash. it's something that i never suggest because i prefer custom tattoos but i don't know of any custom tattoo that would suit what you want. all tattoos hurt no matter where you get them. some hurt more than others. anything directly over bone will hurt more than something with muscle and fat beneath. i hope that helps.

maybe you could draw someting up youself or with a tattoo artist. You know what you like, etc. Also, do not worry about the pain. It is going to hurt some no matter where you put it. BUT< the pain is only temporary...you can handle it!
