I want to ..no scratch that.. NEED to go on a diet soon. I am 35 pounds overweight according to the chart at my doc's office. Need to lose those 35 pounds...but not necessarily fast...maybe over six weeks or so.

I'm sick of diets that say eat so and so amount of calories or so and so amount of carbs. I am lousy at counting that kind of thing. I need specifics...like for example: have 1 cup of so and so cereal with 1/2 cup of milk for breakfast...1 apple for snack 1 salad with lettuce tomato...etc...for lunch.
Can anyone tell me the foods I need to eat...and how much?

Just focus on one thing at a time.

For now, try to eat a well-balanced diet. Whole grains, fruit, vegetables, low-fat dairy, and lean meat. Drink water. Once this becomes second nature, THEN try to eat between 1200 and 1500 calories per day. Work on that. When you find that this habit is established, THEN try to get moderate exercise 3 times a week.

You seem to feel overwhelmed - that's very common. Just focus on fixing ONE habit at a time. The weight will come off slower, but it will come off AND stay off this way.

If you are sick of that, why don't you just eat the same stuff every 5 days during the whole diet? You only eat those, and those are around 1200 calories or so. So, you don't have to keep counting over and over again. Do you see what I'm saying?

Example (I don't know what all of these add up to. So, please don't do these unless you know it's 1200 or a little greater. These are only examples.):
day 1: eat cereal, salad, Twix bar, water, 2 chicken legs, and so on
day 2: eat cereal, apple, chocolate milk, steak, mashed potatoes
day 3: scrambled eggs, McChicken (Mcdonald's), 2 slices of pizza
day 4 and so on until day 5

This way you won't be eating more calories, and you don't have to count except those 5 days. The problem comes when you add tthings. Than, you are back to counting stuff. Try that, and see if it works.

I lost 105 pounds in 6 months. Here is how I did it.
1. Every morning get up and walk for 45 minutes. You can start with less time, but you want to get up to 45 minutes, and it must be fast walk. You want your heart rate to go up. It must be in the morning, it kick starts your metabolism.
2. I cut out Red Meat, and fatty foods. Boneless skinnless chicken breast, baked, or grilled, rice and vegetables (steamed).
3. Eat half. Just eat half of what you normally eat. Put 1/2 on your plate, and put the rest away. Cook less. When you go to fast food, get salads only. Or grilled chicken. No fries, only diet soda. Or water.

It will work, once you get into a routine, you will get hooked on the results, and you will keep the routine. It has been over a year for me.

Also start counting your calories. Write them down. You would be amazed as to how much more aware you are of your caloric intake, if you actually write it down. We recently discovered a site that offers a great program that counts calories, as well as keeps track of everything. It allows multiple users, so everyone in the family can keep track. They offer a free 7 day trial, and so far I am very impressed with the product. Try the 7 days and see. It allows you to add the exercise that you do during the day, which increases the amount of calories you can take in. Very Cool!!
