I met this guy in Europe and I don't know anything about him. I do email him every once in a while but never asked him anything personal, just things about his country, jobs there, location, ect because I will be working there soon.

It's been months since I've met him and have exchanged at least 20 emails in the past 8 months and I don't know anything about his life... so finally I got the guts and I emailed him last and told him a little about myself and I asked him to write me back with a little about himself...

Is this stupid? He hasn't replied yet. Did I dig in a little too much?

No I actually think you were right to ask and you waited the right amount of time. You have been exchanging emails for a while now so I think it's perfectly fine to ask a little about him as a person. Don't worry, the worst that can happen is he doesn't want to tell you anything personal about himself, but I doubt that will happen. Good luck to you in your new job and new location.

Its neither weird or stupid. Its what friends do. Obviously he doesn't share your feelings. I'd just let it (and him) go.
