He recently started doing this and his sister, another black domestic longhair, doesn't even flinch when she passes this wall. It is the only place in the apartment where he does it. I've gone over and checked out the wall, there is nothing there. It is white plaster with no visible marks of any kind. I've turned the hall light on, yet he still seems to find something to meow at in the same exact spot. It's sad to hear him meow and see him jump up at nothing, but when I got to approach him while he is there, he just runs off. I've picked him up and brought him back to the spot, but he doesn't seem to see anything when I am with him. I am utterly confused! He doesn't do this constantly or on a regular basis, but he does it more often than not, and I have no clue why. Any ideas? Any?

All cats do some "ODD" things, I would'nt worry. My Stimpy used to stare over my shoulder out the window; one day I just happened to look just right and saw what she sort'a did. The dog three houses down. She can't "SEE" that far but notice the movement. Moral of the story

This is strange because my cat does the same thing in one spot in my living room . He stares up at the wall and meows, I have gotten upon a chair and looked at the wall , there is nothing there !
I am glad I am not the only one who has a cat that does this .

It may be a teeny-tiny cobweb that waves back and forth........or a ghost! My sisters cat would run down to their old, concrete cellar and be fascinated with this one spot only. It was an old house, and it was the area where coal could be stored in the old days. Well, kitty was outside one day, and ran to thet very same spot, but OUTSIDE the cellar and was scratching at the house. I would never go down there alone again!

Cats are very psychic. They see things we humans can't. I am not surprised that your other cat just walks by, because cats are each so different, just like us humans. I have three cats and each has a different personality. One of my cats is a real introvert and stares at objects too, but does not make a sound.
Just don't worry about it, you may have the spirit of a former tenant there.

Cats can hear much better than we can. It might be a bird or other 'critter' on the roof, or as someone said earlier, it might be a cobweb or some other minuscule thing that we can't see with our eyes

Kitties can see into the other dimension. Theres probably a ghost sitting in your hallway dangling a ghost fuzzyballonastring and Mr. Kitten is trying to get to it. Or maybe kitty is jsut a schizo?

I don't know why your cat does that, but from my own experience... When my cat did that we found out that we had a mice problem. Cats hear the smallest sounds. Maybe yours is hearing something in the walls. Good luck, I hope it isn't mice.

One of my cats did that for about 2 weeks straight and then stopped. I have no idea why though. It's just a quirky thing some cats do.

Many animals chase things that "aren't there." Are you sure his 'meow' is a sad meow? He may just be entertaining himself. You said he runs off when you approach - my cats do this when they are excited and playing. :)
