the one on the front page today said that the girl in question - among other things had 2 spoonfulls of sugar on her frosties of a morning & had her second helping of bread & pot noodle at 11:30 at night. If that's not her mother's doing I don't know what is. Firstly - that girl isn't going to miss the extra sugar on her frosties so should be stopped from quite frankly being piggish. Secondly she should be in bed long before her second, yet alone her third 'evening' meal of the day. Parents who have got into this mess now don't want to be the 'mean' one to put a stop to it. Trying to get kids to have porridge for breakfast & veg for their tea is hard work - but the story on the front of the Sun you're referring to is nothing like that. The woman doesn't have a clue about looking after a child & reading the story it amounted to pure gluttony.

if the kids are raiding the fridge in the night there is obviously still unhealthy fatty fioods in there and as evil as it sounds its the parents. Have a "treat" jar that is locked and out of reach that way they are not totally deprived of the foods that all kids enjoy... or at least thats wot i'd do if i had over weight kids... I don't use the "Obese" word... its like swearing to me lol

If I wanted my 8 year old daughter to be extremely fat I guess I'd start to increase her food intake until she was constantly overeating until she got so big that she could barely move let alone exercise. I don't do this as it would be very bad for her and would amount to mistreatment. If I mistreated my child then I would expect the authorities to step in. Anyone who mistreats their child, be it intentional or unintentional should find the authorities stepping in. They are there to protect children from mistreatment of all kinds. These poor children have all the same potential as any other child at birth, but sadly not the same parenting. (Please do not think that my comments include the small number of children who may be chubby due to a medical complaint or side effect of medicine).

it is not the government or the media that is to blame, but the lazy, irresponsible parents that allow obesity to happen
