It's called adrenaline. First of all you must realize that a police officer is merely a human being in a uniform. His body works the same way as yours and everyone else's. When he is faced with a stressful situation (i.e. a car chase), he knows that his and everyone else's, including innocent bystanders, lives are in jeopardy and largely depends on his actions. His body reacts by creating adrenaline which surges through his system, increasing every second that the chase continues. Once the suspect decides he will give up and end the danger, the officer cannot simply turn off that surge of adrenaline. Sometimes that officer reacts in a negative manner that he would not ordinarily do if not for that adrenaline rush. He is hyped up, he may have tunnel vision, and the "fight or flight" syndrome is occurring. Proper training helps, but cannot totally eliminate this response. If you've ever been faced with a frightening situation, you may realize that you exhibited extraordinary strength. Such as the proverbial lifting a car off of someone that is trapped underneath. Same basic thing happens to police officers in a car chase.

I believe that gang and mob mentality are brothers. After chasing a guy that has put innocent civilians in harms way , I'm sure an adrenaline overdose is at hand and the cops are reacting the best they can without doing what they really want to do .I believe there are much more criminals in jails and prisons now because they are playing the percentages . Cops are being watched so closely now it makes it more difficult to do a good job and sometimes that includes a good beating . I say give cops a waiver to do their jobs without fear of a lawsuit ( to a certain point ) and beat the bad guys black and blue . Abeating usually never kills anyone so whats the big deal. I say Rodney King did a disservice to our entire American society.

Because these criminals endanger the lives of civilians as well as our police officers, and while there are 30 cops chasing behing this guy other crimes are going unpunished. The fact that they cant just sharpshoot him right off the bat before they can do any hard is astounding. You libs already accomplished making it illegal to be mean to criminals and they have to chase this guy till he crashes and kills someone or runs out of gas. When these people get out of teh car they usually try to shoot the cops.
WHY DO YOU DEFEND THESE SCUM UNLESS YOU ARE ON THEIR LEVEL????
Next time you see a cop, thank him for beating that criminal.

Who cares?....Cops are cops. That's the way they are and the way they need to be. If you do not like it please, by all means, join the force and try to change things.
p.s- look, I'm no die hard fan of the police department, but I do think a lawsuit should be the last thing on the mind of a cop arresting some degenerate piece of s*** who was driving 100 mph through city streets.

They are victims of the adrenalin rush just like anyone else.
Besides, I would fully support a gun shot to the head on the spot for running from the police. The runner puts way too many people at risk.
I have ZERO tolerance for criminals that have nothing better to do than take from hard working people.

think like what causes a chase?
chase only occurs / occured if the driver of the vehicle didn't stop for the police / his siren, may be the vehicle was stolen or may be he was hiding or under influence of the drugs. many reasons and rules are different in every state. what if he had a knife or gun in his pocket of the driver of the vehicle. cops can do what ever if once they think that helps them to control the operator of the vehicle and get bad guys off the street.

Well, then the idiot shouldn't have run when just 1 cop was behind him, now should he?
I would like to think that if there are a few cars full of cops behind some idiot running from them (one can't out run Motorola. . .) would make sure he never did something so stupid again.
But I am also a believer in violence being an excellent motivator, so I might not be the right person to agree with your "poor criminal" thinking. . .

Why did the suspect run from the cops?
This is the problem with modern society, we questions the cops more than the criminals. Cops are not super-human. They get "amped" up when someone runs from them because they perceive their lifes in danger

You know what you are right, the cops should have just let him go. They should be fired. The nerve of them trying to catch a child rapist or a burglar, maybe it was just a small crime like murder. The next time you are a victim of a crime just take it, don't call because god forbid we would have to chase the suspect and go hands on with him if he ran. What would you want the cops to do if someone just tried to kidnap your child I bet you wouldn't be such a liberal freak then.

I don't blame the cops one f-ing bit. They didn't know if the guy was armed, was crazed out of his mind on drugs, or was HIV positive and wanting to spit on the cops or scratch them.
I am sick of these scum, evading a lawful stop, and putting the lives of innocent people at risk.
