The major and most direct are people living their lives. Sanitary conditions require pollution treatment and where it is not done there is pollution. People create garbage and this must be dealt with. People want industrial goods and they are not willing to pay unrealistic prices for their creation. Industrial pollution can be limited and that is done in the USA, and EU, but in the third world, the economies will not support it. There are natural direct causes such as volcanos, earthquakes, and natural changes in plant and animal cycles. These natural sources can dwarf the other cause in effect because they are so large.
