Isaiah ch 53 carries a series of verses which refer to the suffering servant ie Jesus Christ on the cross at Calvary. Bearing in mind that Isaiah wrote some 700yrs before Christ`s birth he got it amazingly accurate (with a lot of help from God of course).
Is 53 v 3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief........
Is 53 v 4 Surely he hath borne our griefs and carried our sorrows yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.....
Is 53 v 5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
A prophecy concerning the Saviour to come but not for 700yrs. This is the graphic detail of the Lord`s suffering on the cross.
I should point out that christianity is the only belief that tells of God taking a step out of glory, coming to earth as a baby, living as a normal human and finally dying a cruel death at the hands of men and God, to save those who will believe in Him.
Not just some of the best verses in the bible but one of the best chapters.

Suppose you hear in one of the towns the LORD your God is giving you that some worthless rabble among you have led their fellow citizens astray by encouraging them to worship foreign gods. In such cases, you must examine the facts carefully. If you find it is true and can prove that such a detestable act has occurred among you, you must attack that town and completely destroy all its inhabitants, as well as all the livestock. Then you must pile all the plunder in the middle of the street and burn it. Put the entire town to the torch as a burnt offering to the LORD your God. That town must remain a ruin forever; it may never be rebuilt. Keep none of the plunder that has been set apart for destruction. Then the LORD will turn from his fierce anger and be merciful to you. He will have compassion on you and make you a great nation, just as he solemnly promised your ancestors. "The LORD your God will be merciful only if you obey him and keep all the commands I am giving you today, doing what is pleasing to him." (Deuteronomy 13:13-19 NLT)

It is contained in 1 John 4, verses 7 to 21, but I would like you to read it and discover it for yourself. It's all about God's love and how perfect love drives out fear and how, if we claim to love God, we must also love our brother. After you've had a chance to read and think about it, check out my answer to your next question, When one is saved by Jesus what is it like?
