Standing up for a person means they have credibility, respect, morals...It takes a voice and to be heard the louder the better. Those who would follow could be curiosity seekers not necessarily friend but a good person if the cause is right. Get the facts, make the decision and stick by it.

I hope it would depend on weather or not the friend was on the right side of things or the wrong side of things. However I tend to think that on a more realistic note that there are alot of followers out there and will stand up for a friend rite or wrong.

Yeah, well how about in those jury movies where one person brings everyone else around?
Or town hall scenes where one person voices somethign they're all scared to say?
Or one kid in class raises a "stupid" question, only to find that others secretly were afraid to ask?
This is Minorityof One.
And it does tend to work.
