Why atheists aren't all evil? Why they shouldn't fight evolution? Would you bring up the moral code of the bible? What's most important to you?

Well, listening and fundamentalism usually don't mix well. Kind of like non-stinky air and Weld County.

But, I would go with this: Assuming there is a God, what makes him the God of Abraham?

That sure seems like something anyone could understand.

The fact that the Bible has been in the hands of Man for 2,000 years. That's 2,000 years of fallibility, biases, mistranslations, and corrupt clergy (the whole free will thing kinda makes it so whatever state the Bible is in today is our own problem). Therefore the Bible is unverifiable and in all likelihood, very different from it's original form (not to mention being taking out of cultural context, from a culture who's consensus reality doesn't even exist anymore. Word do not mean the same thing to different cultures that speak the same language. A simple example is a Fag. In England, it's a cigarette, in America it's a derogatory term.

Basically I'd try to convince him to look deep within for God instead of in a Bible or Church (you know, the also fallible men everyone has been writing checks to for 2,000 years and doing what they say).

Just my 2 cents

Hmmmm.

I wouldn’t comment on what a warm day this is. I’m sure the response would begin … If you think this is warm ….

In fact I would suggest staying away from any mention of fire, lakes, volcanoes, brimstone or anything else that could give them a good opening to their favorite topic.

I wouldn’t mention any other culture or religion unless you care to subject yourself to a hateful tirade.

I certainly wouldn’t mention any aspect of scientific study.

There would be no point in discussing literature because they have no concept of metaphor or allegory and I rather suspect they believe a simile is straight from the devil.

So I doubt I would say much of anything. I’d just listen and keep looking at my watch.

Hello young man,

I am a Christian and I have an opportunity to speak this evening for about fifteen minutes to a group of fundamental Christians. I will extend an invitation to those who are not yet Christians. I am a bit of a fundamentalist but I have several agnostic, muslim, and atheists that I converse with on a regular basis and I listen to them as much as I do with anyone that I know. I also expect them to converse with me in the same manner. We have a normal discourse on several different subjects including their views of religion or non-religion and mine as well. I do not lecture them and they do not lecture me. In this manner we are able to speak respectfully toward one another. Please act as if you are respectful of one another on this site. I appreciate many of you in your intelligence yet there are times that you do not give others an equal chance of expressing themselves. I believe that each and every person has worth and they should be allowed to express their opinions in this forum. Thank you for this opportunity. Have a great day and a wonderful week!

Yours,
Eds

Well, I'd probably talk about the Cowboys, the weather, global warming, something REAL. No, just kidding.

If a religious fundie had to listen I would probably just spend five minutes laughing. Does that count? Other than that, there are so many religious absurdities that five hours wouldn't be enough time to discuss it, let alone five minutes.

I've got a rule against talking to them one on one due to a few instant message sessions where the one told me she prayed to jesus and got a new car, its the third time she had done that and gotten a new car, and another told me the water on Earth before the flood was pure.

So honestly, I would stare the fundamentalist in the eye and not talk, I find it would be a waste of my breath, their world view is based on a brainwashed ideology and it wouldn't matter what I say their resistance to anything other than that world view is too high.

Total silence.

I'd talk with them about current events, family, the weather, etc. to show them how nice an atheist can be, then I'd tell him to read the entire bible.

I'm pretty sure I couldn't think of a THING to say. I mean, how do you converse with someone so ignorant?

I prefer not to speak to people like that (ignorant people in general, not just fundies.)

Simply put.......the only thing worthwhile to talk about to a true Christian for 5 minutes....is that if you don't fully and sincerely repent of your sins and accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior into your life and live for God and not for yourself.........You will surly see the ultimate destruction of your soul in the Lake of Fire!!......How simple!!

Well, we can see the answer to that every day here on these boards. You guys have unlimited time with "fundies" and they do have to "listen", and what DO you talk about?

Mostly I see ridicule and sneering contempt. Impressive stuff...
