Hey I just posted this in a different category -- but I want a wide variety of answers, if possible.

I have a roommate who I've known for years and she has a drinking problem. When she's sober, she's fine. Everytime she gets drunk she says really mean, hurtful, backhanded things to me. She doesn't get mean with everyone. Only a select few (I'm one...lucky me). We used to be close, but I can't tell her personal things because she uses them against me later (mocking me... trying to make me feel bad). She also gets offended that I don't really tell her things anymore. I have 9 more months on the lease and I need to figure out how I can handle this? I can't talk to her about it because she gets defensive and angry and takes it out on me. It will only make my life worse. She is a lost cause. I just need to figure out how to cope with living with her until the lease is up. Moving is not an option right now (very difficult to find a place in my city). Any advice?

If it is your apartment then file an eviction at your local courthouse (civil department). If it is not your apartment then I would secretly videotape her the next time she does this and show it to your landlord. He/She will most likely work something out with you. Maybe you could stay with a family member or another friend temporarily. No one should have to deal with that kind of abuse.

Worst case: Install a lock on the inside of your bedroom door and and have a nice relaxing evening in your room whenever she gets drunk. Invite over a friend to act as a "buffer" between the two of you. Or, you could go to visit a friend until she sobers up.
Good luck and try not to kill her!!

You really need a WIDE RANGE of answers for this? No, you don't.

MOVE OUT. She's a train wreck. Of course moving is an option. I don't understand why you haven't gotten out already? You contact the landlord and advise him/her about the situation. She's become abusive and you can't live there. He will give you an amount to pay and you get out. Done.

If you make excuses to stay there another 9 months (you ARE going to have to move then anyway) then you really LIKE being abused by her royal drunkenness.

This is a no-brainer.

the suited plan if she is that immune to you assisting her is to get out of there as quickly as accessible. communicate with the owner and attempt to get your call off of the hire. i might additionally propose which you the two lock your room once you're no longer there or shifting something powerful to a secure area because of fact as quickly as she realizes which you're leaving, there must be a tantrum of a few sort. in case you may no longer get out of the hire attempt to avert being interior the home whilst she's eating or (and that i comprehend how atypical this sounds) set up a time table of a few type so as which you would be able to devise whilst to be out so as that she will drink to her heart's content cloth without inflicting a conflict. it would additionally help her if there grow to be something to distract her from eating like volunteer artwork, a action picture night (alchohol-loose), or getting her a date. this might optimistically supply her something to do and watch for which will shop her interest off of you till you may pass out.
