My neice is only 14 years old, and even though she only straightens her hair about once a month, it is damaging it severly.

She was born wth very thick hair with big bouncy curls, and even though she washes it with supposedly "strengthening and thickening" shampoo & conditioner, its thinning and the curls are almost flat.

I recently took her to cut her hair, thinking that the problems were due to dead ends, but we haven't noticed a change.

Suggestions?

I would try a curling shampoo and conditioner for when she wants it curly, along with a good mousse, spray gel, and a good polishing oil to help control frizz. then when she wants it straight us a shampoo and conditioner for straightening. After she straightens a section of her hair us the polishing oil put beware a little goes a long way, so put a small amount in hand, rub hands together, then through hair (one section at a time) then put the straightening iron through the section of hair one more time. Her straightened look should last for 2 days if she is not to active (sweat wise) you can put a small amount of baby powder in your hair at night to absorb oil and sweat, then touch up with iron the next morning. Also once a week us a hot oil treatment and a few days later a deep conditioner. It will cost about $30 to $40 a month and is a little time consuming but for beautiful hair is worth it.

My hair totally is the same and it just goes thru changes... I suggest a deep conditioners once a week for awhile and even some warmed (microwave) olive oil (add some essential oils so you dont smell like a salad) But I notice that my hair changes with hormones all the time... Just last month I thought I was losing my curls forever and this month totally curly again.

You should have asked the hairdresser for advice. There are a lot of products out there that can be applied to the hair before using an iron or straightener. And, she should be able to dial down the heat -- buy a new one if it doesn't have settings.

I use Garnier Nutrisse, by the way

try organic essences "hi hydration" if that would not artwork then per chance try pantene products! i'm virtually one hundred% positive that they have got a shampoo and conditioner for heat damaged hair! And in the journey that your searching for issues to guard adverse to warmth damaged hair then I advise "warmth protexx" bye nexxus..having skinny hair i take advantage of this a lot so when I straighten my hair it would not finally end up fried! reliable success!!!wish I helped!!!! :)

I have natural curly hair that is really thick. I usually use shampoo and conditioners that say they are for dry/damaged hair. She could also try a hot oil treatment I think V05 sells them.

i have curly hair too that i straight too sometimes.....does she use conditionar?....if not use it everyday..also try putting mayo. (yes mayo.) in her hair and letting it sit for a while and then wash it out...that will help hydrate it.....also using shampoo and cond. for permed or dyed hair will HELP ALOT TOO..trust me! Try that Garnafrutes (I can't spell it) but try that brand.
