Religion is indeed the opiate of the masses.
The masses are, well, you know the phrase.
But I wish to all get out that I had faith in something.
I wish that rational thought had never dimmed my zest for life.
I wish I could be "stupid" enough to believein fairy tales.
However, the metaphor of Christ bearing the Cross has indeed saved me, because I could have died from a hormone problem that made my heart race dangerously as well as stressed my organs greatly. So, I am again about to bear the cross and go to fix everything else I let go wrong with me meanwhile, and I am still very grateful for the message of Christ.
But there's no way I believe in resurreciton, etc.
And I wish I were that "dumb".
Irrational.
And hopeful, and happy.
You?

Buddhism has filled the void for me- it emphasises human potential without any need to believe in God. Conventional religious beliefs just seem hollow and meaningless now that I've come to understand the Buddhist perspective on life.

There are a few days when is sure seems like it would be easier. It would definately help with "family issues" too.

But I think there is a lot to the "ignorance is bliss" state of being. It's similar to being around someone with Downs Syndrome. A good friend has a child with this and they truly are very happy and always content.

Then I sleep well, have a good laugh with friends and remind myself that "an unexamined life is not worth living" and carry on.

I'll be honest. There are days I miss having faith in a big all powerful, all loving deity. It's a deeply comforting feeling.

I'd rather have the truth, which is that there is no such thing as a deity, but yet, that doesnt' stop me from wishing.

I'm not sure they would be considered "western" gods, but I really really wish I could be a pagan or Wiccan. I'm so drawn to that type of religion, but no matter how much I wish it, I just can't see myself believing in anything again.

Call me all the names you wish. I makes no difference to me personally. That longing in your heart is the Holy Spirit calling you back to God.

If Jesus were a "Western God" you might have a point. But he didn't begin in the West. Maybe that one little thing has you all screwed up?

Sure, ignorance is bliss but I really enjoy having clear vision.

you know what? maybe when I was 16, and insecure, and scared, and sometimes lonely. (and probably full of raging hormones but that is another matter)

I did for a while when I was younger, but my brain wasn't having any of it.
