He wasn't it. He never served in the regular US or Confederate Armies. He was a guerilla soldier....sort of an American Al-Quaeda of his day.

I can find NO evidence that Jesse Woodson James (1847-1882) was ever dishonorably discharged from the military or legally served in the military... he joined Quantrill's Raiders which was an irregular Confederate guerrilla group of the Civil War.

Jesse G. James (of West Coast Choppers) has no information about him ever serving in the military... he played college football, but then became a bouncer following a knee-injury, and then moved on to found his motorcycle business.

Is there another Jesse James to which you refer??
