Prayer is the souls sincere desire, uttered or unexpressed. There is a great hymn that starts with those words. Prayer is our communication with God in sincere, honest expression of our thoughts and needs. Try to feel for the thoughts that come into your mind as you pray. You can pray for your own life needs and responsibilities, then pray for those that are close to you with their needs and then expand to those that you are acquainted with. From there pray for the rest of society and what they need. It doesn't take much imagination to come up with valid requests to our Heavenly Father. Be humble, be sincere and have faith that He will hear and answer your request. When you present a problem to God, think it through and come up with a conclusion. Then present your conclusion to God and ask Him if it is right. If it is right, you will feel comfortable and at peace about the issue. If your conclusion was wrong, you will feel confused and uncomortable about it. That way you will know to reexamine the issue and come up with a different conclusion. Prayer works and has been an anchor in my life. Don't give up.

Well first off, if you dont pray in private..you have no business praying in public. what do you mean you get tuned out? God speaks alot of going to your prayer closet and pray. I remember when I first started praying out loud. I also was nervous about it. I have a very good friend and we call each other every morning and pray together before starting our day and doing something like that will help. The more you do it, the better you get at it.
I know when I pray I feel Gods presence and that makes it so much easier to talk to him. pray for your church, study group, God's touch in the lives of the unsaved, ask God to use you for His will, ask for the knowledge and the wisdom to apply His word to your life and thank Him for sending his son to die on that cruel cross for us

Prayer is a form of communication with God. Communication means it is two ways. When I find that I have nothing to say to God, I just listen to what He's telling my heart. Sometimes I find it easier to talk to God without using spoken words. I don't know how to explain it, but use the term "telepathically". As far as praying in public, it takes practice. I have found though that when I pray in public, I don't feel as close to God as I do when I pray privately.

This is how I pray: (I'm Catholic by the way)

I start by Making the sign of the cross +. Then I prayer the Set prayers which are either written by Saints (Prayer of Saint Francis) or by God (The Lords Prayer and Hail Mary). After this I then talk to God...>>>>>

I use this order:
1. I give Praise and Thanksgiving to God
2. Confession of my sins and Ask for forgiveness
3. Last, I ask God for the things I think I need. (Graces and Virtues)

There are no exact words that you are to pray when talking to God. It's what's in your heart, and the Lord understands. The Bible says that God makes intercession for us when we don't know how exactly to pray about something. He looks at your heart, and as long as it's crying out to Him in prayer, then that's all that matters. The Lord never tunes you out, but is always ready to listen, so don't stop praying!

Praying come from the heart. Weather you say one word or 35 words. It's like the story in the bible of the woman who gave her last 2 cents for offering and Jesus said she gave more than all the others --rich gave $$$- He knows exactly whats on your heart and hears more than you can ever say.

I used to have a problem with that too. I always wanted to be able to recite the most beautiful prayers. But really it doesnt matter how you say it. Dont be shy with God. HE doesnt care what flowery words you use. Try typing him a letter. I feel that works best for me. I can always get my words out better on paper. Good luck and God Bless.

Don't worry about impressing others with your words. After all, Moses couldn't even speak in public. And Jesus said to go to your room and pray to yourself.

Sometimes I find myself feeling the same way. On those occasions I remind myself of the text which says, "Be still and know that I am God." I simply empty my mind and allow the Holy Spirit to lead my thoughts. It's an amazing experience.

Just make it up, that is all they are doing. Add things in really big words, that will impress them as well. Also ask for lots of money and everything else that your little heart desires. Kind of seems like your friendship is a little one sided, don't you think? You do all the talking and kissing his butt, and he does.......well......nothing at all.
