Im talking about betting £1000, £2000 maximum on a football match, will the bookmakers let me do that ?

You should be allowed to.

I think there are some restrictions on betting on single football games, arising from the exposure of match rigging scandals some years ago. Unless the game is broadcast on TV somewhere, you may not be able to do so. Best thing is to open an account with one of the major bookmakers and ask them to send you a copy of their rules or pop into your nearest betting shop and the rules should be displayed on the wall. If you are internet backing a limit may be shown by the bookie concerned at the time you seek to place your bet.

I've worked for a bookmakers and can tell you that bets into the tens of thousands of pounds are not unusual.

You may find that there is a maximum limit you are able to placed via a bookmakers web site.

However, if you call their customer betting line they will be able to take your bet. I've it is for a large sum they may well transfer you directly to a trader who will be able to take the bet for you.

Yes there are ALWAYS upper & lower limits, both at the casinos & at bookies - generally £100-500 per bet. Gambling is a great way to lose money without being able to spend the money you have earned on anything nice & rewarding.

you'd get that bet on no problem. the only time you may struggle to get that kind of money on is if you were trying to bet on a really obscure event. i.e. lower league turksih football or other events that don't normaly attract attention.

A couple of grand on british football is not unusual, i know one punter that has £80,000 trebles on the premiership, now that is serious cash!

Possibly depends on what they make the odds don't it ?
bets of that size are generally better handled with telephone or net account anyway. You don't want to be mugged collecting your winnings in cash!
