Duties of the Captain and Committee Members
The club captain is responsible for all segments of the golf program. It is necessary that the
person responsible for this position is knowledgeable and have time to perform the duties.
It is also important for the club captain to have lots of help!
Winter
Appoint committees and meet to outline responsibilities
Plan golfing events and create a golf calendar
Spring
Attend the Alberta Golf Zone Spring Meeting
Hold an opening meeting at the Club
Announcements from Alberta Golf Zone Meeting
Present golf calendar for the season
Sign-up sheets for various competitions, events
Clinic information: rules clinic, skill clinic
Fall
Hold a closing meeting at the Club
Report on the season
Hand out prizes and awards
Attend the Alberta Golf Annual General Meeting
When planning events it is a good idea to diversify activities, space the more interesting
events evenly throughout the season and avoid scheduling club events at the same time as
provincial tournaments.
Golf Committees
Golf committees are working committees but can vary in composition.
In a smaller club the captain and an assistant may be able to fulfill all responsibilities for
the season.
In a larger club the captain, assistant captain, and junior chairman can comprise the golf
committee.
It may be desirable to have a club captain be part of a larger executive comprised of a
president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, trophy/prize convenor, and social convenor.
In some clubs the captain is appointed as a member of the board of directors.
A club captain may be able to fulfill all responsibilities by having an assistant and
committees for the big events at the club—i.e., club championship, member/guest, open
invitational. In such an arrangement, individuals could be responsible for activities such as

I have just become Captain of a Vets section ,we have a full committee to do all the sorting out of games ,matches etc,.
My main duties seem to be give out prizes and awards,listen to the members moans,head our committee meetings,and look after the 72 members we have,.
It can be a pain,but it can be very rewarding,i am in my 2 month and having a good time.the only downside so far is that i have to go to the main club committee meeting,NOT GOOD.
