You pay a company to negate the carbon out put of say your SUV, they put the money into wind farms, solar power, etc. It cost $79 for a car. I think it is a good idea. I am a conservative, but it sounds OK. Private enterprise will save the planet, not the government. What do you think?

I see, why don't the people who give money to the company just invest in wind farms themselves. I don't know.

I think this whole panic of global warming has become idiotic at best. It is biased and the people involved that spread this garbage are guilty of hiding certain facts. No matter what anyone does, the Earth is going to have it cycles. Before the dawn of man the Earth has warmed and cooled. How are you going to stop it?
This whole thing is absurd.
As P.T. Barnum said, " There is a sucker born every minute."

Wind Farms and Solar Power are not perpetual energy producers. First, it takes carbon energy to create wind turbines and solar panels. How Much? Wind Turbines and Solar Panels have to be repaired and maintained. How much carbon energy and how much man power does it take to maintain and repair these items. Finally, the useful lives of wind turbines and solar panels are not indefinite. What is the useful life of these utilities?
One way to track all of this is through cost. How do these items compare on a cost basis, especially when the subsidies are taken out? Usually, they do not compare well to conventional power plants, but then there is the carbon offset. As stated above the carbon input is NOT zero, and in fact might be more than conventional systems. Finally, it must be demonstrated that carbon output is, in fact, a real threat. Include me in the camp that has severe doubts.
Not that the logic of my arguments should not prevent us from proceeding to trade carbon, buy offsets, etc. I know that only fools rush in, but what the hell, full speed ahead!

You are not a conservative in any way.
I am forced to pay a company (yea right) Because I must work and drive. This so called Company Puts wind farms up That will make power from wind that only blows 30% of the time and only 25% of that wind can turn the windmill.
To make this work we would need to cut down trees in mass so the wind can blow freely.
Then we can put up windmills as far as you can see miles and miles of them. All humming along so loud you can hear them as you sleep.
THINK FOR YOUR SELF!!!!!!
this is so much JUNK!!!!

PROBLEM: It's still government intervention in business, and it's yet another example of liberal-sponsored state supremacy. See, the Government is trying to force this upon us, very similar to Hillary Clinton's idea of forcing Exxon-Mobil to take the entire $34 billion it made in profits last year and making them spend it on R&D for alternate fuel sources...where the hell does she get off? However, I will give credit where credit is due -- I heard a Democrat in Minnesota wants to offset the amount of state dollars being spent on healthcare by imposing a tax on elective cosmetic surgery procedures. Note the word ELECTIVE (those who need cosmetic surgery due to injury or medical necessity would not be required to pay it, but the people who are getting themselves enhanced for their own vanity will have to dig a little deeper into their wallets). How's THAT for a great idea?

I couldn't agree with you more. The details are still a little sketchy to me but with some planning and careful legal action I think we can easily pull this off....Your observation of private enterprise is right on the money, as Americans I think we need to fully support these actions that are being made in the private sector because if we don't government is going to step in and flip the bill instead....And seriously, we can't trust the government with handling something as deadly serious as global warming.

Taxes in disguise. They want you to take money out of your pocket and give it to a social cause that they dictate.
Private enterprise would be if you invested directly in the wind farm with a decent chance of a return on your investment. With their plan, you are just giving them money.

I think $79 seems quite expensive.
Price of CO2 allowance in Europe is now less than $1/tonne. Check pointcarbon.com for the latest price.
