I am really nervous about the operation. I am afraid she won't survive the anastetic or the operation. I don't know why I am so scared. She is my best friend, she is the best puppy anyone could ask for. She has never been alone since I got her at 8 weeks. When I try to leave her for a few minutes (so she will get use to being alone at times) she runs out the door and sits and waits for me! I am lucky that I am allowed to bring her to work with me. Has anyone else ever been worried, please share your experience with me. Please be serious, don't need people telling me to grow up, get over it, etc..I love my puppy very much and am worried. I don't want her to suffer or be in pain..is the operation safe, will she suffer? Thanks in advance for all who care to answer :)

She will be gone two nights! I asked the vet why 2 nights and he said that they find puppies that have had time to adapt to their new environment do better during surgery. He said there blood pressure etc is lower in these pups then those you just stayed the one night...

Okay!! Your Vet explained why your baby needs 2 nights away from you and I know how that feels!! You have to do what's best for her, but don't feel bad about loving her so much.
Sometimes they will let you leave a little towel or washcloth with her and you can wear that to bed and make it smell like you, her Mommy. But if the Vet says No then let it go and trust Him!!
SHE is the Luckiest Puppy Ever Born to Have YOU!!! @8-)

I agree with the other two responders. The procedure is common, but it is a must for every responsible pet ownerr. Your vet can tell you that the pet is asleep (general anesthesia) for the duration of the procedure, and that the incision is small (it probably won't even show a scar after a period of time). A vet will always evaluate the dog's ability to withstand the anesthesia to insure the dog does not die on the table.
Only another dog lover would understand your concern about pain - the operation is very safe, and your pet will not suffer.
The responsible pet owner does two things for his dog - spays or neuters his pet - and obedience trains his pet. Teach your pet not to jump up on people, and to come when you call her. Teach her to sit and stay, and above all - a house broken pet is much nicer to live with. A pet with good manners is, indeed, a pleasure to all who come in contact with her.
Check your local breed clubs and obedience traning clubs. You might even find a new hobby.

Don't worry you're dog will do just fine. I did it when my puppy was about 4 months and she stayed overnight at the vet. It was my first night without her and it was so lonely. But you are definitely doing the right thing. Your dog will probably be a little groggy/out of it the first day or two but she will be fine after that. The only thing is they usually have to wear one of those plastic cone shape things around their head which can be a real pain. Good luck and it's definitely the smart thing to do. Before you know it she will be back home with you!!! Have fun with your pup, I wish I could bring mine to work with me :)

One of the best things you can do for your girl is have her spayed. The vet has high tech equipment and loads of experience with this procedure. She'll be just fine. The hardest part will be keeping her quiet for a few days while the stitches heal. Don't worry. It's very rare for problems to occur during the typical spay surgery.

Aww <3
I have a dachshund myself, some of the best you can get. Anyways, to answer your question, I was worried when mine went in to get spayed as well, and she was a tad bit younger than yours. When we took her to the vet she was pretty scared, and so was I, but the operation went fine. She was a bit sleepy the rest of the day, so she stayed on my lap the whole time, but after that she was normal the next day, you just have to help her when she jumps till the stitches are gone.
Good luck =) And thanks for helping both your dog, and the others in the world, by getting her spayed.

Your puppy should be fine during the operation. Most dogs are fine with it. If you are still worried talk to your vet about the operation and what the risks are. Its a very common procedure doctors do it all the time

Oh I share your worries...last week my baby Hercules 16month old chihuahua was fixed I was so scared that I almost didn't take him. He is my very best friend too! Well, last week he went in and I called the vet at least 8 times in fact they were laughing at me that I was so worried but they humored me instead...Hercules is fine and doing great running around and being my little buddy again. He was not feeling well for about 2 days I got the extra pain meds for him but I only used them for 2 days after that he was fine and shows no sign of slowing down! Good luck and Dont worry she will be fine!

Your baby will be fine with the surgery. If you want you can ask them to do preoperative bloodwork beforehand to see if all is well. During the surgery there is a technician there watching and monitoring the whole time. Your puppy will be hooked up to an EKG monitor and things. They take good precautions.
It is nice that you can take your baby to work but dont overdo it. She needs to learn to be away from you at times. It wont be healthy. She will learn that you do come back and love her still the same. You dont want her to get separation anxiety. Not good.
Good luck with your baby.

If you have complete trust in your vet then everything should be OK. It's not only OK to worry but I would thing other wise if you were not.
I worry about my dogs all the time and by now I guess I shouldn't but that's being a very responsible owner.
Good luck!

I know how you feel... I will be taking my girls to the vet this summer to have them spayed and I am terrified... they also have a problem being separated from myself and my family... just ask the vet questions and know that this is a very routine operation.
