It all depends on what his unit does. The military would like to give everybody down and support time but it just isn't working out like that.

Technically, they can send him back whenever they want to.
The general timeline for active duty Army is 12 months on, 12 months off. It doesn't always work out that way, though. So far, my husband had 15 months on, 14 months off, 11 months on, and maybe he'll get 10 off before he leaves again. They try to give them a year between deployments (or at least as long as the previous deployment lasted), but they can't always do so. It's starting to get more predictable, but you still never know.

Depends, usually only a couple of months, my brother has had to many tours of iraq/afghanistan so they gave him 1 year off but I think thats really rare. Most troops deploy for at least 9 months out of the year as a minimum so probably dont expect more than another 2 months.

It all depends. My husband is a Crew Chief for the Air Force. he's in iraq for 4 months, home for 2 weeks, in iraq for 4 months, home for two weeks. We've been doing this for over a year now. They go when they are needed

Dwell time for Active Duty units is supposed to be 3 years. So far, it hasn't worked out that well for most, but we're getting into a rotation cycle, now.
Once this is established, he'll know exactly when he's going and where.
For National Guard and Reserves, it's 5 years. I plan on being back here in 2013.

Usually its a year, and here at Fort Drum I have seen them go back just before a year and I have also seen people get transfered to other units or stationed elsewhere where they are deploying. But in reality there is no answer for you because with military life every thing is pretty much a hurry up and wait situation.

If needed, they could ship him out the very next day. Be thankful they haven't and love him a lot while you have him there. He's doing the US a great service and you should honor him for it.

He can shipped out again at anytime. I believe that a person won't redeploy if they have served 24 months straight.
