Roughly one ton AC capacity for 100 CFT room. That is a room of size 10 feet x 10 feet with a headroom of 10 feet would require a one ton capacity Airconditioner

You can get a rough estimate, but actual cooling capacity will depend on many more factors then square feet, like number of people in the area, equipment and machinery, obstructions to the air flow (walls), number windows, direction a room faces, etc.

it says that for every square foot of floor area, you will need so many tons of cooling for the cooling season and so many btu's for the heating season. these are just quick and dirty estimates though.
