Do you hand her the money after she cuts your hair, or leave it with the cashier when you pay? Is there a proper way?

I always give it to her directly if she's around after I pay (usually I need to get change back for the tip). This is best, especially if you like the haircut. However, if your stylist isn't around (like if he/she sneaks iff to the back room and you need to leave) then give the tip to the front desk and say, "This is for so-and-so. Could you please make sure that he/she gets it, and let them know that I love my cut?" There's nothing wrong with that if your stylist isn't around.

Yes, I fold up the tip and hand it to him directly after paying for the service. If I don't have change, I give him enough for change and he'll hand me small bills so I can tip him. I just say thank you, he knows what it's for. Some salons are so busy that the stylist doesn't actually ring it up themselves, and are already on to the next client. Then, give it to the receptionist to give to him/her, or, some salons have little envelopes at the desk for this purpose. You can put the tip in one, and write the name on it and leave it at the desk.

MINE- HAIRSTYLIST ALWAYS ESCORTS ME TO THE FRONT COUNTER BECAUSE WE HAVE BEEN FRIENDS FOR 20-YEARS OR MORE. THEY USE TO SAY IT WASN'T PROPER TO TIP THE STYLIST THAT OWNS THE SALON. I ALWAYS PAY BY CHECK AND ADD THE AMOUNT TO THAT. IF I PAY CASH I JUST GIVE HER THE MONEY AND DON'T ACCEPT THE CHANGE WHEN SHE TRIES TO GIVE IT TO ME. NOT TIPPING AT ALL I BELIEVE IS DOWN RIGHT TACKY-OWNER OR NOT OWNER. FORGET THAT!!

I pay my bill first, and then hand her the tip and say, "and this if for you." My stylist is also usually the one who collects the money.

My stylist usually comes to the front and rings me up herself, so she'll give me the total and I'll just tack on the necessary tip and say, "No change, the rest is for you, thanks!"
