I myself, think they are good, and you say very tasty and cheap.
Its the thought of what they do inside the animal, that puts people off. Yet the Scots love it, as it is their tradition HAGGIS & WHITE AND BLACK PUDDING, which I have also tried and like., whilst billeted up in Edingburgh.

A good question. Both easy and difficult to answer. We used to eat it as kids together with even more odd things; dinner could be a sheep's head, half a pig's head or assorted lungs & guts called "pig's fry" at the time. We had it because there wasn't much else about and for the reasons you give.
I don't eat it now. I've become a victim of the "I can afford better and I don't need these nasty guts" syndrome.
Basically, I think we should eat the lot or not at all. I'm working on the latter.
To any younger answerers, I hope you feel better now that you've thrown up!

I think today most of the people are of the opinion that eating bowels like these is disgusting.
By now we know what these organs functions are. You mentioned kidney, its function is to clean blood and produce urine. I personally don't assume that as yummy..
and the function of a liver is actually to store toxics (next to produce essential proteines etc), so it even might be better to avoid this kind of food... you never know how the animal who the liver belongs to lived before it was slaughtered...

Some people have a problem with consuming "organ" meats, plus the fact that many do not like the taste of such items.

A) Because people have become too choosy now. Our Grandparents ate Whale meat during the war, and were bloody glad for it!
B) Because no one gets taught old-fashioned cooking any more. I consider myself an average cook, but I wouldn't have the foggiest idea how to prepare offal.
