I have just realised my payroll department have administered my pension incorrectly. I have now found that I will have a tax bill this year in the region of £420.00 they have been paying the wrong amounts monthly to my pension provider - different to what has been deducted from my payslip and my employers contributions are incorrect. I questioned it in March and they say we can meet next week to discuss? They also confirm to me that their control accounts have not balanced for several months - it must be since 2005 at least - whay is it only mean that is concerned????????

It sounds like your payroll department have set up the pension incorrectly on the payroll system, it seems they have not been deducting tax from your pension contributions. But you really need to find out what exactly they have been paying over to the pension company. They should pay over exactly what is deducted from your pay. I balance my control accounts every month and a problem like this should be detected very quickly.
You need to go to the top on this one. Maybe put it in writing to your HR director and or Finance director. This needs sorting and sharpish!

It's obvious your payroll office requires an auditor!! Having been a payroll manager for 8 years, there is no excuse for this type of bookkeeping. Surely you can't be the only employee affected.
I would take this as high in the organization as possible. This is not something that can be swept under a carpet. It is costing you! The company is ultimately liable for their fiscal responsibilities. If nothing else, demand a "bonus" to cover your out of pocket expenses. Good luck.

No good asking for help here - get on to your payroll department, the tax man and NIC - department of works and pensions.
