He has flakes all over him and he has been a bit itchy lately. Is there any sort of shampoo or treatment that can help him?

try shampooing with an oatmeal shampoo for dogs. Also try adding a teaspoon of oilve oil to his food daily or buy the fish il capsules and give them. Make sure you are feeding a well balanced high quality food.

Get an oatmeal or some kind of shampoo specified for DOGS ONLY that has a moisturizing ingredient in it, it should be very clear by looking at the label. Also, don't give him a bath more than once every two weeks, preferably every three to four, as it dries out the natural oils in your dogs' skin and hair and makes them itchy!

You can also put a raw egg and/or olive oil in their dry food and it will help their coat. The one thing to watch out for with food is the ingredients in it. If there is corn or a lot of starch in the dry food, it may make them itch. Old Roy's brand at Walmart may be cheaper than the rest, but it makes my dog and my father's dog itch, which tells you the ingredients are bad.

He could have alergies (yes dogs get them too).

I worked in a kennel for two years and we regularly gave dogs antihistamines like Benadryl for runny noses, watery eyes, itchy skin etc. They're just like human allergies and human medication is safe for them (that said, talk to your vet about proper doses and/ or brands for your dog).

And medicated, tea or oatmeal shampoos will help out a lot.

Add a vitamin "oil" to his food. It will help with the dry coat and skin. It is possible that he has allergies. I would make an appt. with your vet to get it checked out.
