Wouldn't it be a much bigger sacrifice if Jesus had stayed dead?

It's not really the ultimate sacrifice, is it?

know-it-all: You said: "..would you rather he not die at all and we all go to hell..."
-- So you are saying that the only way God can forgive you is if he sacrifices himself to himself? Can't he do it without that?

The sacrifice is that he came back. Think about it. At his death, his enemies gloated over him, his friends abandoned him, and his fan club turned on him. Any regular person would have said, "Screw that!" and stayed in Heaven.
He isn't a regular person. He came back. And, he didn't come back to chastise his friends for scattering in his time of need. He said, "Peace be with you." I, personally, would have been tempted to chew them out. Again, he is no regular person.

I don't know about you, but I would prefer a much humane way to die then being crucified .

MODIFY:But, I think in a way, He didn't have a wife, a child like other jews of his age, he never got to love a woman the way other "lesser humans " did. The only thing he could probably look forward to was meeting his Daddy and chilling out in heavenafter he died. Was it a bigger sacrifice to leave heaven to come down, or was being crucified a bigger agony?

MODIFY AGAIN: It would be a big sacrifice to come here in the first place, dying two times is just the details. And I hear Someone said God is in the details. Hmm.

The reason why it was such a "big sacrifice" was because Jesus Christ died the most cruel death anyone could possibly go through. Plus, He is the Son of God...and He had never done anything wrong. He was perfect....He was sinless. We, as humans, are sinners...and the wages of sin is death.....not just to die, but to suffer the eternal death (eternity in hell aka the lake of fire)....God loves us....and He sent His only Son aka Jesus Christ to be an atonement for our sins so that we don't have to pay the consequences of our actions. Some say, "well why did it have to be him...why couldn't it have been someone else who died?" The answer to that question is because Jesus Christ was SINLESS!! He is the only person in the history of anything that was ever sinless....and if just anyone could save themselves from hell..then that would sort of defeat the purpose of Him being sinless......He rose again on the third day to show that He wasn't "dead"....strange you say? think about this, when a person dies, he or she is then thought of as dead right? duh...anyways Jesus rose again to show that He was not DEAD...HE IS ALIVE!!! not in a bodily form, but He can help you...His spirit is alive and He lives in me and many others around the world....
i will indeed be praying for you, that you may one day come to know that what i'm tellin you is true....and i pray that you will one day have the joy and peace in your heart that i have in mine

All the forgiveness in the universe wouldn't have made a bit of difference with Satan still in charge, as he was the undisputed "Prince of this world".

Jesus' death at the hands of the forces of evil resulted in the destruction of Satan's evil dominion, as no one, not even the devil, had the authority to take the life of a sinless man, let alone the only begotten son of God.

Only then would mankind be free to repent, and only then would forgiveness become possible.

All this had everything to do with who Jesus is ... but nothing to do with how long he stayed dead.

Jesus was perfect, yet He suffered and died to save us.

In one sense it would have been a big sacrifice to stay dead.
But Jesus is our perfect example.
He died, but was resurrected and went to Heaven.
After we die, we will also be resurrected and go to Heaven.

The big sacrifice of Jesus is this (it is hard for us to understand the perfect closeness that Jesus and the Father had/have) when Jesus took our sins on the cross, the Father could not bear to even look at Jesus, at that moment they were separated (think of the worst such feeling your have had and multiply it many times over), Jesus then cried out "Father, Father, why have you forsaken Me?".

This separation was the greatest hurt to Jesus.

A sacrifice by definition is something that is killed and its shed blood atones for sin. If that does not occur, then there is no sacrifice.

It was also a big sacrifice because Jesus did not DESERVE to be killed or tortured. We did, he didnt, anybody but him! Nevertheless he did it anyway for us!

No. How would he be back in Heaven with his and our Father and that miracle would not be in our memories to look back on and remember the sacrifice God made for us and how terrible we treat such a blessing. He would not have been able to complete his work here before he went to Heaven. Giving your child is like dying yourself.

First of all can you imagine the pain of dying on the cross- EXCRUCIATING!! The sacrifice was the pain and the death that he died- however if he remained dead we would not have hope- Jesus had victory over death and so do we!!! If Jesus died and stayed dead our hope would be for nothing.

Yeah! he didn't do such a big sacrifice if he died on the cross like Christians say!

I think the idea is that he was being punished (tortured and "killed") by these barbaric peoples even though he was trying so hard to save their souls. He did this being a great soul. Perhaps that was the thing to do at that time and place with those people. I don't think we necessarily have to be tortured to death to save souls.
