If so which one, what do you eat on an average day, how much/what exercise do you do and how much weight have you lost in a time period?

And have tried any "fad" diets, did they work?

By the way, I'm not actually on a diet or trying to lose weight just doing some research!

I tried pills - didn't work.
Tried the Special K diet - didn't work long term.

Eventually I started calorie counting, eating 1200 to 1550 per day, and took up running - 3x a week, 300 calories per session. Lost 20 pounds in 4 months, and I've kept it off for 10 months now. Used the site below to log my calories, but you could use a pen and paper if you want.

I've been doing South Beach for almost two years. My diet basically consists of lean meat/dairy, lots of veggies, and whole grains.
Typical breakfast: whole grain english muffin with egg whites, 2% cheese, turkey bacon and a slice of tomato.
Lunch is usually a big salad with green leaf lettuce, cherry tomatoes, bacon bits, a little blue cheese and some grilled chicken.
Dinner can be some sort of chicken or lean ground meat with veggies (sometimes a burger w/ whole wheat bun, tacos w/out a shell, chicken with ricotta and mozzarella cheese, or even whole grain pasta with a salad.)
I don't exercise all that much, but I do walk the dog everyday. It's something I should get into a little more. I'm thinking of pilates or yoga.
I originally lost 23 pounds in about four months, but have just been maintaining for a while now.
It's the only diet I ever have really done, started it to lose baby weight. I'm not sure if this is considered a "fad diet" it may be by some, but it's more of a lifestyle change.

Fad diets don't work, unless you're looking for a quick fix. You also shouldn't deprive yourself of any one food group. You do need carbs, so the Atkin's diet is ridiculously unhealthy.

I find that simply watching what I eat, eating smaller portions, and really paying attention to calorie intake is what keeps me on track. Just go through your house and through away all the snacks that are bad for you. Replace them with fruits and veggies and 100-calorie packs, which are suprisingly declicious.

Skinny Cows are a great dessert if you're an ice cream addict like me.

Also, you have to work out. I actually do home DVD work outs because I can't afford a gym membership right now.

Watch the calories! It's true. Calories are what turns into fat if your body doesn't burn them, and there are so many calories in seemingly "healthy" foods like wheat thins and other snacks. Just pay more attention to labels.

Also, smaller portions and more frequent meals. This keeps your metabolism up throughout the day, which will burn more calories. Most people think you should just stop eating, which is very bad.

Cut out soda. There was a recent study done that says one soda a day will equal 15 pounds of weight gained in a year. Cut out unnecessary sugar and eat more fuits for the sweet treat cravings.

Eat more healthful foods like veggie burgers and fish. Salmon is SO great for you. Salmon and veggies is a great dinner. Then have a skinny cow for dessert, and you should be very full and very satisfied.

This is worked very well for me, and I've maintained it for years.

I'm just doing a life style change. So I'm eat healthy Mon.-Fri. and on the weekends I can have some junk food and etc. I've been doing yoga for about 35-45 minutes a couple times a week. I've lost 10 pounds already.

None, of the fad diets I tried never gave me long lasting weight loss

My sister is doing a program where she replaces two meals with a shake, she takes vitamins, and herbal tea after each meal and she lost 5 pounds in 2 weeks

Sometimes she exercise but if she did 30 minutes a day for 3-5 days she would lose more weight faster.

A diet should be integrated in someone's lifestyle. It shouldn't just be something you do for a few months.

I eat 6-8 meals a day depending how intense I workout on a given day. Most meals are 300 calories or less, sometimes I substitute an MRP like Met-rx. I stick to low glycemic carb foods (only high glycemic carbs I consume are after a strenous workout). One day a week I'll treat myself to something high glycemic as well like a few slices of pizza. I supplement with vitamins/minerals, creatine, digestive enzymes, and flaxseed oil.

Lost 40 lbs. in 9 months.

i have been on an off and on diet for years... I am actually 15 pounds from my ideal weight and i can't reach it. I have lost a total of 25 on the adkins diet. the introduction phase is really hard and takes great determination and will power. It worked though. i try to just eat low fat and low carb and low sugar diet, try exercising every other day. just watch what you eat. check your BMI and don't measure pounds on the scale , but how loose your clothes are.... lots of luck
