Its somethings some people do, but not all. It more of a personal preference, people who change their names do it because they feel there whole lives have changed and they are forming a new life. I was born with a Muslim name. Islam is like a identity for some people, especially African Americans who traditional use African or Arabic names.

All depends your wish...but to get a new arabic name is a lot more desirable by the new coverts...change the name is another statement...that they leave their old world behind...joining the new world of ISLAM...you will be asked to change your name ...if your name is offensive in the ARABIC language...Ex. My Name is NICK, in the Greeck language is a nick Name for the Saint : ST. NICHOLAS of Greeck Orthodox church....But in the Arabic Language : NICK means sex...so if I will become a Muslim it will be funny when I join a temple...the Imam will indroduce me speaking Arabic...Oh!! brothers...Mr. SEX just join us...So you understand to avoid situations like that if I will become A Muslim in the fure the smart thing to do is to change my name. I do n't think that they will like a new comer that wants to join and his name is JESUS...and this individual will like to keep his old name .

It usually does change but it's often just used as a 'second' name. My brother-in-law converted and kept his original english name. Moreover, there are many muslim names out there that are also english -Adam being one example (which means 'from earth')

Hope this helps
