I hear people say God creates something out of nothing, whenever he wills.
Einstein, however, proved that matter & energy never get destroyed or created (but merely change from one form to another)
IE, log burning in a stove changes to light, heat, smoke, etc.
Some theists would point to the universe winding down, which only sounds valid till you realize that for every place losing energy, it is offset by massive black holes elsewhere in the universe where mass GAINS energy (forming NEW stars & planets that last millions of years all over again)
What is the answer to this question? Can God really make more than himself, or more than what already exists, essentially making God greater than himself, which is even impossible logically speaking?

Hate to bust your bubble, Mawkish, but "nuclear decay" does not prove something from nothing.
You are only proving something from something.
Which isn't the question I asked.

Oh yeah, and virtual particles Ummm, that is something from something, since they also exist briefly, so that really does not apply.
The big bang? umm, yeah, mass can be converted to energy, or vice versa.
How do we stay "afloat" in space without "falling"?
Why do you guys make things so complicated. It is simple really...
The same as objects in motion stay in motion (unless acted upon by other objects or things to slow, alter, or stop them) while objects at rest stay at rest.
Silly, sometimes things are so simple, you just overlook them for want of a complicated answer.
The earth and all the planets need nothing to hang on, simply because, unless there is a force pulling them in any particular direction, there is no inclination to lean more towards any direction over another, therefore we "hang" upon "nothing".
How hard is that, really? When there isn't anything pulling us 1 direction or another, the forces for any direction are roughly equal.
Why would we move, without force?

He also proved that energy creates matter. A tremendous form of energy in a giantic burst can create matter and it did in the form of the Universe. It is moving through space and spreading out showing it has only been the big bang a few billion years ago.
Then they proved that there just wasn't enough gravity in the Universe to cause these planets and stars to move in such precise order. So they came up with the theory of black matter that has no atoms and it is invisible. To explain why things are moving as they are. That was a whole new concept.
For the last hundred years we were told that all things have atoms. Anything we knew in the Universe had Atoms.
Now this new discovery gives us black matter that has no atoms and is invisible. To explain why the Universe is the way it is.
What you are learning today the rocket scientist said, "will be disproved and looked on as foolish in the future." Why? we are just now learning the mysterys of the Universe. So to say some man 100 years ago made a statement that cannot ever change or is held as gospel is probably the greatest misrepresentation of all time. Sometimes I think God laughs at us and our reasoning.

the axiom that mass/energy cannot be created or destroyed is wrong and was shown to be wrong by quantum field theory, which is shown to be true by the process of nuclear decay (amongst many other things). Energy is being created all the time but exists for a sufficiently short amount of time such that it is undetectable according to Heisenburg;s uncertainty principal.
If you are unsure, go look them up.
Incidentally, this has nothing to do with God.
GuanYuWarGod: Anything divided by zero does NOT equal infinity. Anything divided by zero is asymptotic and, therefore, ill-defined. It is not right to say it equally infinity because it coincidentally equals minus infinity. You are wrong.
Edit: You misunderstand. Nuclear decay requires quantum tunnelling, which is only possible by breaching the conservation of energy for a sufficient amount of time (according to Heisenburg's uncertainty principal). Whilst the 'radiation' is not created, energy must be created momentarily for the 'radiation' to escape (whether we are talking about fission or alpha decay or whatever). So, in order for nuclear decay to occur energy conservation must be breached, otherwise the 'radiation' won't have sufficient energy to escape the nucleus. Please do not doubt my physics knowledge I think I am more qualified than you.

You wrote, "Einstein, however, proved that matter & energy never get destroyed or created (but merely change from one form to another)"
This is the reason evolution is not possible.
God is the only being that can CREATE matter.
He is the maker of the laws of science. He is science.
There was no DNA discovery when Darwin was around.
Even the scientist that came up with the warm soup theory has recanted his claims. I saw him interviewed and he just looked confused. He didn't claim christianity but I have a feeling he was leaning toward creation science.

Your blackhole physics are WAY off.
Your knowledge of thermodynamics is clearly skewed (the universe *IS* in fact winding down in the sense of it developing towards a ground state).
Your ultimate idea, "something cannot come from nothing" is true. But dude, your science is way, WAY off. It's hard enough battling the theists bullcrap false science without people who don't understand the real science spreading false information too.
---------
Mawkish is in fact 100% correct in his statement. He showed nuclear decay only as one example of an effect mediated by virtual particles, which are (in a way) 'something from nothing' [though I would argue they arise from 0 and return to 0 and have no physical reality, they're more a mathematical effect, and thus don't quite count either].

Can you create something from nothing? My husband does sometimes. But that I can ignore.
Can God create something from nothing. I'd say yes. But I conceptualize him as expansive and outside of this universe with additional dimensions.
Does God interfere with this universe now or did he set it up to happen according to plan ahead of time? Does he mess with physics. It seems not, he seems to like it orderly. But that I dont know. He may have a dimentions and energy types we are unaware of.

All I can say is that God is above our logic. Scientists are learning new things every day ...
For example Pluto, formerly known as a planet, has officially been demoted.
Anyhow, just since we can't do it, doesn't mean that it is impossible for God to do it.

Impossible. However x/0 is sometimes proven to be infinity. Therefore only something infinite (i.e.God) can create something out of nothing.
